Bus fare refund - driver caused accident

I'm going to write to Stagecoach for a refund after the bus driver caused a slight accident.
Mediumish story short, we stopped due to traffic and a van pulled up beside us ready to turn right but had to wait until other traffic had passed. As soon we were clear, the driver accelerated, without seeming to care about the van (it stayed still) and the rear of the bus scrapped against the vans wing mirror. I'm not sure if it was legal for the van driver to do what he did as I don't drive myself.
The van driver immediately drove in front of the bus, stopped and started yelling at the bus driver. After 10 minutes, the 2 drivers concluded and went back to their vehicles. The bus driver then muttered a slight apology (didn't really seem like he meant it) and carried on driving.
On the way, the bus driver (and I think the car in front) went passed a red light (they were temp lights, roadworks on bridge) which really made me angry.
When I got off, I asked the driver for his name (not nastily) and told him it was to make a complaint, he refused in a bad attitude.
Should I email them or just send a straight letter demanding a refund? I think the guy was just having a bad day at the office, but his attitude just really p*ssed me off. The ticket is only worth £4.50 but he situation was poorly treated.

but the fact that his simple carelessness caused another driver to need his wing mirror replaced and it wasted my time.
Say I was going to a job interview? They could potentially have cost me a whole lot more then a measly £4.50. ok, I wasn't on my way to an interview, but same rules apply don't they?
Weather or not they do compensate the driver, I will never know, but he seemed incompetent to do his job and unable to deal with situations like these, why should I suffer because of it? I got the bus because its quicker then walking. Oh we didnt realise you suffered, in what way was that then, you were a few minutes delayed.
You werent going to a job interview. it didnt cost you a lot more than £4.50.
If youre ever going to an interview, i would leave a lot more leeway than a few minutes.
You lost absolutely nothing, you really need to loosen your stays.
Life's too short, just get on with it.

If you had been on your way to an interview then yes the same rules apply - still no grounds for a refund.0 -

As you said, you don't drive and you don't even know if the van driver was at fault so it could have actually had nothing to do with the bus driver at all.0 -

These two statements don't sit well together.
And not every driver can deal with accidents - some are nervous or scared of confrontation.....but it doesn't make them incompetent.
You also claim to have been poorly treated.....how????
You decided to make a complaint and asked the driver for his name....he refused. So prior to the driver refusing you had already decided to complain.....about what????
Get a grip....how much time and electricity have you wasted complaining about your £4.50 on this forum????
