Re-Mapping Complications

Many modern cars are toned down via the ECU to appeal to a wider audience and too soften them up a bit, and a remap will simply unlock that on stock components everywhere else, with no need for overhauls on anything.
I'm running full mods (nearly) but was running just a remap and it was fine, only consequence is slight clutch slip.
There's no point having power if you can't get it to the wheels though.0 -
wouldnt it be better to have a tweak done instead of a map on the 90bhp engine. fuel pump re timed, upped psi on turbo with a airfilter replacment kit dont have to be piper or k&n. would be a bit cheaper and iron out flat spots. you wont get the high end bhp fromit but throttle and rev ranges will be better.0

I would check that out with a few insurers. I suspect some will not view a modified car as being equivalent to a more powerful off the shelf version. Also some of the lower cost insurers won't touch modified cars.
Nobody is going to let you increase the power of your car and not charge you more to insure it, thats a fact of life. And if you do remap it and prang it and dont tell them expect problems when it eventually crops up that its been remapped.0 -

Would increasing the breakhorse power of an older Golf have any adverse effects to the standard engine given the age and miles it has already covered ?, I don't mean to horse it up and down the country but to give it a bit more power through the gears i.e 2nd to 3rd gear ect.
The engine would be a VW Golf 2001 Reg 130000 Miles on the clock, I would be looking to take it from the 90 - 115 or maybe 130 bhp.
Cheers
You won't go from 90bhp to 115/130 with just a remap unless it has a turbo bolted on.You'd need cams, exhaust, air filter and a remap to maybe get to 115 if your engine was mint and you were very lucky.
You'd be looking at 5-10bhp max but would have a much more driveable car as remaps are more about power "under the curve" than outright power gains.
An increase in power will shorten the life of the engine but for the gains you'd be getting I wouldn't worry about it happening anytime soon.0 -
People are assuming its a tdi, OP doesn't say either way unfortunately.0

Well, as I haven't even posted in this thread ( prior to this post ), perhaps you should follow your own advice which is/was;
" Perhaps you better put me on ignore fella, worrying over my posts isn't doing anything positive for your piles. "
If you look carefully you will find that I was not specific to this thread, but relating my experiences with you two in other threads.
If you have any difficulties with reading and understanding things then just ask an adult to help you with that.:rotfl:0 -

Should I ask that same adult how to spell " purile " then?
( Clue, try Puerile.. );)0 -

The SDi (non turbo) only had about 65/70bhp, the 90 was only available in TDi. Back in 2001 I think they had stopped making the 110 in favour of the 115, though may be wrong on that. I seem to remember that the 90 had an all silver TDi badge, the 110 had a red i. There was also a TDi with a red Di, not sure if that was a 130 or 115, though I think the 115 replaced the 110 and the 130 was intrioduced as a top spec model.
But the 90 is definately turbo charged, not sure but I think the 90 wasn't intercooled, whereas the 110 was.
I am sure a VAG enthusiast will be along with more detailed info.0 -

Yes, on you go, though why are you picking me up on my spelling now, you didn't the first time you read it, though you had to think of a witty reply, didn't you, eh.
Whats the matter, upset due to not actually understanding my previous post, and when you tried to be smart you made yourself look silly.
Seriously if you have nothing constructive to add why no just stop posting.
The last resort of the TROLL, look for small spelling mistakes.0 -
