Re-Mapping Complications

The quality just isn't there anymore, i can remember when a vauxhall box was as long lived as the bottom end of a vauxhall engine.
Probably more profitable I suppose.
May explain why the 130 Mondeo is apparently limited in the lower gears for the same reason, this info is from the Mondeo forum so may be wrong, though my Mondeo definately feels more meaty in 3rd up. Have heard a few stories of 3rd gear synchro giving problems and also jumping out on the overrun aswell.0 -

No it's not - bearings go very often.0 -

You will get an EASY 25BHP from a remap on this car.0 -
I think the car is too high miles to remap. Personally.0

The engine would be a VW Golf 2001 Reg 130000 Miles on the clock, I would be looking to take it from the 90 - 115 or maybe 130 bhp.
Cheers
A 130'000 miler isn't going to take too kindly to that... For you expense you'll get maybe a few thousand miles of use before it explodes.
Im not a fan of remap's, they're the lazy option.... if you want power you need to get in there and do a full bottom and top end overhaul.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

FYI, the 90bhp is pretty stand-alone in it's set-up. It was never designed to take much more than the whacking 90bhp originally given. I used to own one, and made some enquiries myself as it was a bit gutless, but was warned off it and eventually sold up for the 130bhp engine in a new car! You will almost certainly blow the turbo unless that's uprated too, and that would be another few hundred quid.:A Luke 6:38 :AThe above post is either from personal experience or is my opinion based on the person God has made me and the way I understand things. Perhaps FH I am getting fed up with Gene and Inactives purile posts so may have taken your post out of context. Though my post was posed as a question so not a direct attack.
Well, as I haven't even posted in this thread ( prior to this post ), perhaps you should follow your own advice which is/was;
" Perhaps you better put me on ignore fella, worrying over my posts isn't doing anything positive for your piles. "0 -

Not really lazy though, doing a top and bottom end overhaul (engine wise) on my car wouldn't really achieve anything without a remap. Many modern cars are toned down via the ECU to appeal to a wider audience and too soften them up a bit, and a remap will simply unlock that on stock components everywhere else, with no need for overhauls on anything.
I'm running full mods (nearly) but was running just a remap and it was fine, only consequence is slight clutch slip.0 -

It's more about reliability, fuel consumption and meeting EU emissions standards.
When you start messing with the ECU on it's own, your pushing other components beyond their operational tolerances.
There are some engine's which are over engineered and can take this tuning, but there are many that simply cannot.
One thing i'd always do is swap over to forged pistons (much tougher) and much stiffer valve springs to prevent the valve bounce/float that occurs when the standard valve springs cannot seal the combustion chamber quickly enough at high RMP, resulting in loss of compression and misfires.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”
