How many of you buy fresh cut flowers?

I love fresh flowers and just buy daffodils or tulips from Aldi mostly. I have recently got interested in japanesse ikebana flower arranging. Very frugal too as you only need a few flowers.Make £2 a day challenge - doing well so far.0

I wondered about an ancient thread being dug up, too.

But as it has been.....
I'd never dream of spending money on cut flowers. But Mr LW often buys me some. I honestly wish he wouldn't, as I do see it as a waste of money, but he's such a lovely man, and he'd be so crestfallen if I told him to stop, and I just can't do that to him.

I managed to kill a cactus, so plants aren't for me! I buy daffodils at Easter but don't tend to buy fresh flowers otherwise as they're a bit expensive and I don't have a lot of free space to do a big bunch justice.0

Fresh flowers are a special treat, I get them gifted but I've been known to buy yellow stickered ones to cheer myself up. They lift my spirits, especially lilies and daffs.
I have orchids that keep on giving (mil grows them and brings them when she visits) they seem to like certain spaces and grow well. I have lots of houseplants though so can't complain about not having greenery indoors. One fig I bought for 10p about ten years ago is now 5ft tall ...a !!!!!! to dust :rotfl:0 -

The carbon footprint on flowers is worse than meat.
I only buy British-grown flowers as I agree, most cut flowers, especially those that are shipped in from Africa, are terrible from an ecological point-of-view. The amount of water that's used to grow them is horrifying. OH used to insist on buying me roses for Valentine's Day and whilst they were lovely, I couldn't really enjoy them knowing that they'd been grown in Kenya and shipped over here. I've trained him now and I got a bunch of Cornish daffs this year

I love having flowers around and always try to have daffodils when I can get them. A few years ago I got some in November. Not sure if they were very early or very late.
Other than that I usually get ones from the reduced bucket. Even the tatty ones as I feel sorry for them

I sometimes buy cut flowers. RTC for me, fresh from Aldi for mum. She really appreciates flowers whereas my menfolk are a bit more shrug barely notice.
Largely my fault - husband used to bring flowers every week he came over & I taught him that while I croon over flowers I really go mushy over a nice pot so once I taught him the base stamps, he stopped getting me flowers & learned to spot nice pottery instead.
Still, sons know a flower gets an "ooh!" from the recipient (middleson & librarian have very special relationship), so I hope they've learned good ways. Certainly they know to remind me to get flowers for granny - and thus she gets hugged & plied with flowers three times over - which is worth every penny for the delight it gives her.
I had two bunches of tulips looking glorious on the windowsill, but once they started to droop & wrinkle (keep the imaginations leashed, eh?), they went into the compost. I agree - plants are more fun but sometimes cut flowers lift a room for visitors...0 -

When my son was about 10 he bought me the most sorry looking pot plant you can imagine.
When I asked him why he had bought this particular one he explained that there were only two left and he thought that no one else would like this one and he felt sorry for it.

I couldn't imagine life without fresh flowers. I've always got at least one vaseful, normally two or maybe three. I was surprised that even my nieces notice and one commented recently that Auntie Churchmouse always has fresh flowers in the house
A generous bunch of daffodils costs less than £1. Sunshine in a vase! I'll give up lots before I give up my flowers, life is grey enough without denying myself my main indulgence. Pot plants on the other hand...... as one of my sons is reputed to have said to a display of miniature azaleas "which one of you lovelies wants to give up your life for my mum?" Apparently bystanders found it quite amusing :rotfl: Unfortunately it's absolutely true....... I can kill a potted plant with a look, but garden plants and fresh flowers, I'm an absolute whizz :T You never get a second chance to make a first impression.0 -
Up to the festive season I always bought lilies (from Aldi) for the dining table. They would last between 2 and 3 weeks. But while shopping for treats in M & S in the run up to Xmas I was tempted by a Poinsettia for the table. It is still as beautiful as the day I bought it and I am hoping it lasts a good while longer yet as it's saving a small fortune on lilies! (Unseasonal it might be but it looks so cheery with its bright red leaves)"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0
