The Police had come out to investiage everything!
Watch out who you let touch your boiler/gas fires and make sure they are registered and not a cowboy.
Luckily the people in the house were ok - but it could very easily have been a different story.
Here's the different story:
Tributes have flooded in from across the world after the death of the daughter of Chris Anderson, the founder of Bath publishing company Future. Zoe Anderson, 24, died at the family’s home in Lansdown last month of carbon monoxide poisoning from a boiler.
In a statement released on his website earlier this month Mr Anderson, who is now mostly based in America but returned to Bath in October to give a talk about his career, paid tribute to his “dazzling Zoe”.
It said: “Two weeks ago today, riding a ski-lift on a glorious clear day in Whistler, I got the impossible phone call.
“Zoe, my beautiful, larger-than-life 24-year-old daughter had been found dead at our home in Bath, England.
“At the time, it looked liked she’d slipped and fallen in the shower. It now emerges she collapsed from carbon monoxide poisoning, whose cause is still being investigated.”
The message added that family and friends from around the world had staged a celebration of his daughter’s “extraordinary life”.
“Amidst the terrifying grief, some light began to shine through as we marvelled at the ways her life had touched so many people, and dreamed of how we might best honour her memory.”
Mr Anderson, a former Monkton Combe School pupil, set up Future Publishing in 1985 with a £10,000 loan in his parents’ garage at Somerton, near Frome.
He is now the owner of TED (Technology, Entertainment and Design) Conference, a not-for-profit company which provides free videos of talks given by some of the world’s greatest thinkers and best-known personalities.
The 53-year-old, who is married to the founder of global poverty project Acumen Fund Jacqueline Novogratz, says the family are determined that something positive should come from the tragedy and have set up a internet page to raise money for a charity project to protect an area of coral reef, which has so far brought in nearly $600,000.
His message, on his TEDChris website, added: ““Zoe” means life. She was a scuba dive-master and passionate oceans advocate. She would have absolutely loved to see a beautiful ecosystem sustained by the people who loved her. And it’s been amazing to see the loving comments and support pouring in.
“Finally, heartfelt thanks to so many friends who surrounded us with their love this past couple weeks. It’s meant the world. Last month, Zoe was watching the TEDWomen conference over the web. Jacqueline gave an incredible talk, and Zoe tweeted one sentence from it. It was this: ‘Our lives are so short and our time is so precious – Jacqueline Novogratz.’
“Her life was indeed far too short. But the incandescent flame that is Zoe will be there forever, sparkling, beautiful, and inspiring many to live better and love better.”

We've got to take this seriously. They call me Dr Worm... I'm interested in things; I'm not a real doctor but I am a real worm.0 -
Some say not to have them in kitchens as the oven, gas hobs etc emit fumes and can wrongly set them off. We have one (also pushed me from the Corfu tragedy) and it's in the hallway which leads into the kitchen.
A note worth mentioning is that the levels that of CO that they pick up is so low that it won't do you any harm if it goes off so don't panic you have time to get out! They really are an early warning if they go off.
Perhaps a timely reminder for all of us with them to check the batteries etc0 -

Ditto all previous comments - my sister died at age 28 along with her boyfriend in his parents living room - flue to the boiler fitted incorrectly.0 -
OP - might be worth amending the title of this post - not everyone might read it?0

I'll be down to Home Bargains later. I have a fireangel CM detector that was about £20 but wouldn't mind one to take on holiday with us and £5.99 is a bargain. I am glad people are discussing this (even if lightheartedly about Eastenders) because it bumps the thread. I only bought one for the first time after a similar thread was opened and bumped many times - otherwise I would still be sat here oblivious ! sal x0

I'll bump it again thenThey call me Dr Worm... I'm interested in things; I'm not a real doctor but I am a real worm.0
