Thanks building with lego and Matt987106!

And thanks to the OP for making this thread - it's a great bargain and prompted a discussion which might just end up saving my life, you never know! :)
  • We got a joint fire and Co alarm for asda. Never gone off which is a good thing - doesn't even seem to mind toast!! Lol. Our last one used to go off even if u thought about toast!
  • The guarantee usually lasts for 5 years. I know that British Gas advise replacement after then, but at any time before then if it's faulty they replace them free of charge. We had one from Homebase that went wrong after a few months- replacement given in store.

    I'll ask my Gas Friend!

A bit of investigation reveals that the BG ones have non- replaceable batteries and now last for six years. The general advice seems to be to REPLACE rather than maintain as the sensor can lose sensitivity. HTH!

I agree, the more people we can get out the house buying these, the more we have saved from wasting their lives away sat infront of the tv watching crappy soaps and talking about the actors as if they are in some kind of real danger and wishing them well :)

  • I had one of these in my old flat when I was pregnant with my son. It went off one day and we called British Gas straight away. They were very fast to respond, telling us to open all the windows and sent a man to check the boiler within the hour. He put a warning on the boiler and said it needed a full check. I was advised to go to the hospital as I was pregnant. They took blood (from the veins in my wrist!!!!! ouch) and they came back fine. After having the boiler checked it was decided that there was no problem and that the alarm it's self was probably faulty! Even though it was a false alarm I was so impressed with the quick actions of everyone we spoke to. Luckily for us we were all fine.
  • I forgot a key point (anyone guessed I used to work in the industry?!): Check that your alarm has a British Standard kitemark or a European Standard mark.
    Thankyou and goodnight :)
