Heather in Eastenders should have bought one of these

This thread has been very useful to me as it has reminded me to get a new one. Our boiler fitter gave us one in 2004 when we had a new boiler installed and it lasted about 5 years and we threw it away, but have not replaced it. So anyway we do not have a Home Bargains near us and someone has said that ASDA ones are about 10 quid - any advance on that ?
Heather may not die of CM poisoning but when David Essex kisses her she's gonna be in heaven. ( Although he might feel differently )Still virtually alcohol free since 4/1/15. (10 Xmas/ New Year/Birthday drinks)

Was it not budgies they used in the mines on the floor to see if carbon monoxide was present as it was a heavy gas? and if so, should the alarm be fitted low down rather then on the ceiling?
They generally go on the wall (or furniture) at around 5 feet up and a certain distance from the appliance BUT THE INSTRUCTIONS VARY ACCORDING TO BRAND AND SENSITIVITY so check your packaging or manufacturer's website. Some will specify three feet away, others six. They call me Dr Worm... I'm interested in things; I'm not a real doctor but I am a real worm.0 -

I look like Heather in a spoon.
I was putting away cutlery and caught a glimpse of me in the back of a soup spoon. I said to my husband, 'I look like Heather in a spoon!' He said, 'have you only just realised?'
We've had a carbon monoxide detector ever since we got our back boiler serviced for the first time in a few years  and the engineer said we'd been very lucky. Now we get our boiler serviced annually as well.0 -

As well as the things already mentioned, it must also be a certain distance from outside doors and away from areas with high condensation, like kitchens & bathrooms.
I agree that it's vital to follow the manufacturer's instructions. If you don't get it right then you could be living with a false sense of security!0 -

I got one of these recently after the birth of my daughter, tis a good one from Amazon..can't really put a price on the families life can you?
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0030BEM0K/ref=oss_product
Although its actually gone up by about £10 since I bought it
I thought the kitchen was the best and most obvious place for it, but the instructions said that was probably too hot for it, it says if you only have one the best place is outside your bedroom on the wall.0 -

The last time we had the boiler serviced the man said he had spent the morning fixing a boiler which had been put a couple of days before by a dodgy boiler man. The system was releasing all the bad toxins back into the bathroom, because he had not bothered to plumb the extraction pipe in to take the gasses outside.
The Police had come out to investiage everything!
Watch out who you let touch your boiler/gas fires and make sure they are registered and not a cowboy.
Luckily the people in the house were ok - but it could very easily have been a different story.I want to be credit card and loan free by Christmas 20100
