Hi Bookworms :A
Nearly finished "Dream Machine" - its definitely one for someone who likes fun reading and reality TV (X-Factor)! The contestents have their own agenda's and secrets. The books like a journal by the contestants as they go through the process and their determination to win at any cost!!!! Fab!
Clodagh, I think you'll enjoy the Gyles Brandreth book if you are a fan of Agatha Christie. Let us know you're thoughts Sweet Pea if its your 'B' book choice! Eeek....feel like the pressures on now
Oh Eck! Think I'm going to have to start a "recommended books/author list"! :rotfl:

Finished The Checkout Girl, really enjoyed it, hence reading it in only two days! I use Sainsburys, where the girl in the book worked, and although I think I am usually nice to checkout girls, I will try and be nicer from now on! Also I will try not to complain about my own job ever again as it could be worse. I worked in Woolworths on the checkouts years ago as a Saturday girl, and this bought back loads of bad memories I had buried deep within my subconscious!
Think I will go to bed with Gyles Brandreth later. (Dont tell anyone ;P)
The Alice Seabold book is called Lucky, just had a quick look on Amazon.0 -
Am enjoying the Gyles Brandreth so far...........0

Hey Bookworms
Finished the Ben Elton Book (Past Mortem) and thought it was FANTASTIC! Lots of humour as well as a blooming good story. Really great read for anyone who's into Facebook/Friends Re-United!
Attempted to get into the Christine Feehan book but just don't think its going to grip me. I'm passing through town later on my way to work so will drop in at the library and find a new F book as well as a G book I think!
Glad you're enjoying Gyles Brandreth, Sweet Pea! The murderer is........
:rotfl: I wouldn't do that to you!
I'll let you know what books I pick up later!

Hi all,
Still trying to plough my way through Jane Austen, kind of enjoying it but it's slow going. Only get a chance to read when home alone and I keep forgetting to bring it to work.0 -
Loved the Agatha Christie book, had forgotten how much I enjoyed them so easy to read and be carried long with. Moving on now to 'The Count Of Monte Christo', another of the Big Read Books, not sure about my 'E' book yet, will probably go for 'One Week in December' by Sebastian Faulks for 'F' though0

Have finished "Oscar Wilde and the Ring of Death" and really enjoyed it. Had no idea whodunnit until the end. Best of all, there's more in the series! I love it when that happens, you find a new author who you really like and they have written lots of other books. Also read an article in the Radio Times today about a radio programme Laurence Llewelyn Bowen is doing which talked about Oscar Wilde.I know nothing about Oscar Wilde so I have ordered one of his books from Amazon, that can be my W book. I also ordered a book by William James, I was listening to a podcast in which people were talking about immortality and the afterlife, and this man William James was mentioned, so ordered his book too, which will cover my J book, (it said on Amazon it is one of the books of the century or something - feel I should occasionally balance out my "easy read" choices) Anyway - my OH is not happy that I have made copious notes whilst listening to the podcast earlier, all over his ipod docking station instruction book. Oops. But sometimes I hear something on the radio or on the TV or read something and it takes my interest to google it or whatever and I have to write it down quick before I forget.
Anyway, my next book is an MC Beaton, an Agatha Rasin I have not read. Nice and easy and fairly quick. I like Agatha, I can identify with her rudeness! I have this week off work, so more time to read.
So the threads gone quiet, hope it's because everyone is too busy with their noses in a book...........0 -
Hi Bookworms
Sorry for being AWOL! I've eventually finished reallying "Then We Came To The End" by Joshua Ferris. It won a book award in 2009 and was recommended by Richard and Judy......I can confirm that, in my humble opinion, it is carp!!! Because it was so hyped/recommended I persevered through to the end, reguarly hoping that it was going to make an amazing twist and turn that would blow my mind. Oh no, no such luck! I'd only recommend it as an example of a book that shouldn't have been published. It was so boring! Maybe I've just missed something?!
Anyhoo, I recovered and am an now reading "Girl Missing" by Tess Gerritsen. So far, so good!
Sweetpea glad you enjoyed Oscar Wilde and the Ring of Death! Its lovely when you stumble across something that you want to learn more about...broadens our horizons
Clodagh, looking forward to hearing more about "The Count of Monte Christo"!
How's Jane Austen working out for you Swinstie?
Hope you're all ok, sorry the thread is quiet
Happy reading!

Gosh you're flying through your list lala!
I'm only on chapter 11 of JA, can't say I'm blown away tbh, finding it quite hard to get into and I find it sends me nodding *nearly fell asleep in the bath last night*. Must admit to preferring Dean Koontz/Stephen King and most chick-lits I'm afraid. But, I will perservere and finish it, hopefully it gets better.0 -
ooh, how have I missed this thread?? Can I join you?
I've got hundreds of books in my 'to be read' pile, so I might see if I can do the A-Z.
I possibly won't do it in order - mainly because I'm reading a 'Z' book at the moment :rotfl: - Amok and Other Stories by Stefan Zweig. I'm not sure I'll find another 'Z'.
I'm also reading The Holiday by Erica James, so that can be my 'J' book."If you can dream it, you can do it". Walt Disney0
