Watchdog. As you know I like Watchdog and have often appeared on the programme. While the points raised about Travelodge are valid, this is an issue across the whole travel industry, overbooking (if they have the customers) happens.
However, Travelodge has been a mainstay of MoneySavers for a good 18 months and the vast majority of feedback has been good - there is huge feedback across these forums. Thus I would take the watchdog note as a warning that arriving a bit earlier is probably useful, but I still think overall this deal is great

HappyIdiotTalk wrote:I wouldn't book with Travellodge now on general principle after watching Watchdog. If they think so little of their customers that they knowingly overbook rooms and then turn people away then I wouldn't risk booking with them, or even want to. The last thing you want after a long stessful journey is to find that the room you've booked isn't available! Terrible customer service.
In that case, nor will you ever book with any major airline, all of which overbook. I am happy to book with Travelodge, it means I get to go away twice at christmas when I otherwise wouldn't be able to

Thanks booked for 28th Dec. great deal, we did it last year too! that turned out to be fantastic as the weather was atrocious (heavy snow) the local train broke down because of the weather and everyone from the train was trying to get into the travellodge, the price for a night for them was about £50 and we stayed for £15, they didn't turn us away on that night.Make it happen (old signature)

Traveldoge's comparison with airline overbooking is spurious at best. The airlines clearly state a check-in deadline and know a proportion of people will fail to meet it. There is no stated deadline with Travelodge. It is also my experience that the airlines will compensate the passenger; the nature of airline industry (all passengers board the plane at the same time) means that the airline can resolve such issues by prioritising passenger need and by auctioining off compensation levels BEFORE boarding (some people are likely to prefer the compensation and a brief delay). The analogy is purely Travelodge marketing dept spin.RichyRich wrote:In that case, nor will you ever book with any major airline, all of which overbook. That said, if you get there early you get a clean room for less than the cost of a sleeping bag. However, take one with you, just to be on the safe side !! Also, chances are that people turning up late and missing out are not MSE addicts - so who cares ? ...oops - I'm sounding like Travelodge management already !0 -
Hi,
Could someone tell me how many people the rooms are suitable for? My partner and I and our 15 year son would like to book one? In fact somewhere in my murky memory I seem to remember something about family rooms are these on offer as well?0 -
for those of you who have booked a roo be warned that the hotel could be over booked when you get there, ive not experienced any similar problems (overbooking) with any of the other hotel chainsNo Links in Signature by site rules - MSE Forum Team 20

We stayed at Newcastle Central last year and it was very good. It has a double bed and a single sofa which has a pull out bed underneath so a family room can accomodate 4. We actually booked two rooms just to give us more space and it was still very good value. Very close to the bridge and Newcastle has a lot of things for free. We went to a art place just over the bridge.0
