Council move, not entitled to HB and running up huge debts!

.... Basically because he has no legs due to his drinking the council said that he is not the person that you are at risk from, it's the people that go into his house ...
That's a terrible response from them. Most tenancy agreements, including assured ones with social housing landlords, make it explicit that the tenant is responsible not just for their own behaviour but held accountable for their guests, too. It's a real shame the council appear to have absolved him of the anti social behaviour of his visitors, too, as this is usually the duty of the tenant.0 -

All I am saying is : We are the 3rd family to be forced out of the block due to this man's violent and threatening nature. Why should we be penalised so much?
Do you know who the other 2 parties are? Is it worth you getting together and either forming a pressure group to get publicity about your situations, or seeking if legal action against the council is an option? Is the Freedom of Information Act something that can uncover some relevant information or stats on this?0 -
Aaron's Mummy - Why should I not be entitled to a council house. I was in a bad situation before living off benefits and got my council house which I have now lost through no fault of my own. So because I worked two jobs while studying full time with a 2yr old and a baby on the way and now have a £27,000 a year that deems me too rich to have a council house. I worked my !!!! off for the last 4 yrs to provide a better life for my kids when everyone else said that cause I got pregnant at 18 that I would make nothing of myself. You can never win with people like you.
My point is not that you are not entitled to one, my point is that now you are in a position where you don't have to occupy a house when you clearly can afford a private let/mortgagae and still have a substantial amount of money left over, granted not as much as what you may have in a social let but still a lot none the less. Council houses should be used as a temporary measure when you need it until you are able to afford somewhere better. Obviously this was never your intention if you spent 'thousands' doing up the house.
I never said you haven't worked hard, I don't know you or anything about you that is not what this is about, this about you complaining that your rent has tripled and you have to pay storage fees and kennel fees. Would you prefer that you and your kids were in danger or pay the extra to ensure you are all safe? I have already said you can private let and retain your homeless points so why continue to blame everyone else and not do something like trying to find a private rent, the rates aren't that different from where I am (very near you), you will save money and then you can keep bidding on council houses.
The alternative is to stay in temp acc for however long it takes to be rehoused, as I said I was 9months of saving to get into a private rent, prior to me that tenant was 2 years waiting on a house, the figures seem to show that it's not a quick process more of a long slog.
Get yourself registered with local housing associations and send them your homeless notice from the council, you will be put top priority on their lists as well.
I haven't been rude to you actually the opposite by giving you information on what you can do, I genuinly don't think someone earning as much as you do should be taking up a council house when the homeless figures are so high and you have the ability to do something about it. It's not entitlement but your morals and doing the right thing that is in the wrong (in my opinion).

If I was the OP, I'd be bloody raging too!
If she wasn't working and was on benefits, people would moan, yet here she is working, and people are still moaning because she has no savings and shouldn't be expecting to be rehoused by the council. It's laughable really! :rotfl::rotfl:
OP I hope you get sorted soon.Tank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty...0 -
Oh i'd not be happy either but i'd be dealing with it in a very different way to what OP is currentlyDaughters Sealed Saving Pot - start them young :money: £90 :T0

I would be bl**dy livid if I were you. The council should be paying the extra cost to you if they moved you. Do you have Supporting People funding in Scotland? If you were in England they would be paying the majority of the rent and you would pay the remainder. I work in supported housing where the rent is 370pw around 270pw is paid by Supporting People and the rest by HB.
If one of out tenants works then they pay their own contribution instead of claiming HB depending how much they earn of course.
Some of the posts on here are a bit unfair, Why cant people see that she has her rent trippled through no fault of her own. Whether the council need to address the housing policy is another matter all together and nothing to do with this situation
Be nice
Sorry but I have been in the same situation as the other person, living on a council estate, but we actually owned our home, we had neighbours that were drug addicts, and we went through three years of hell, having two cars fire bombed on our drive, and not a week went by with out our windows being smashed, or being threatened with violence, even our visitors were threatened. Was it our fault? yes I think it was as I didn't check out the area before we bought, it was a new town where we knew no one.
The police also had to move us out for our own safety, my husband at the time was recieving treatment for cancer, we lost that house,it was trashed within days of us moving out, we lost a lot of money, but I blame myself, for putting us in the position. Our only crime was, being able to afford to buy our own home and have a nice car parked outside, and not having to rely on benefits. This only happened last year.
We were also offered emergency housing, but after living on one council estate I swore I would never live on another, council tenants have too many rights when it comes to problems like this, the ones that are causing the problems are usually the ones who know all the rules, and if they have kids, they know that the council will have one heck of a job to get them out of there council house/flat. The Police have there hands tied, they want these sort of people evicted, but with the human rights, being as they are, the councils can only move them to another area, for it all to start again. Whilst the people who own there houses, are the ones who usually suffer.
I stayed with my son for a while, until, I could sort out somewhere for us to rent. I had to act fast, to get my husband back out of hospital.
We have still not been able to get the money back for our house, we also spent thousands on it doing it up, but I haven't bemoaned the fact, I got off my ars* and sorted our lives out, we are now living in a beautiful 3 bedroomed bungalow, on a private estate, yes it is more expensive, but we go to bed at night knowing that we are safe, and our car will still be there in the morning.
If the other person was not working YES she would get her rent paid, but she would not get the dogs paid for, She really needs to look at her life and sort out where her priorities lay, and that is not paying a hundred pound a week to house two dogs, there are many people on this site, that don't have a hundred pound a week to live on, never mind, have two dogs.0 -

When the Bank of England were putting the interest rates up and my mortgage increased eventually by 200%. Wasn't my fault but I still had to pay it.
At the time of my divorce when I was awarded a percentage of monies from various policies I was advised/instructed by my barrister and the judge to use this to secure the family home.
You should be looking to use the inheritance to provide a secure place for the children. They should be your priority.
£800 a month for storage and the dogs is more than I get a month to live on.£2 Coins Savings Club 2012 is £4.............................NCFC member No: 00005.........

I see what you are saying but if the council moves someone for their own safety it shouldn't cost the victim. If someone was moved because os asbestos for example and placed somewhere that cost the 3 times as much it is the same thing and unjust. If the OP wanted to move because she was unhappy/didn't like the area I would agreee that she should just get on with it but she was moved for her own safety by the council.0 -

Does it matter if the rent has been tripled as long as the OP can afford it?
It seems to me that she's had the benefit of very cheap accommodation for some time and will do again, if her plans work out. The fact that the rent is much higher for a period seems to me to simply be a case of taking the rough with the smooth.0 -
Have to agree with ONW. Why an earth would you spend thousands on decorating on house you don't own. Paper and paint would cost a few hundred pounds.
I own my own house and don't spend that much.
I need to carpet through out and need a new kitchen. But just can't justify spending that sort of money and I own my own house.
As it is temp I don't see why you are thinking you are entitled to housing benefit.
And no people on here are not jealous or bitter. You are lucky to have a very comfortable income now. Yes the move is not your fault. But it is something you will have to live with, yes it is stressful.
And you will just have to keep a close on your budget something that you must already be use to.
Also don't forget that you tax credits will change again in April. Most likely go down because of this tax years income. So that is something else you need to keep in mind.
Yours
Calley0
