But why should the OP take help from a charity when she has enough income of her own to pay for her pets' care?

Exactly. Anyone reading this who is fighting to get care for their family i.e a secure family house/council house, would wonder why she's afforded the right to house her pets, at the expense of their housing.

Suddenly the council house reform makes sense...

And this comes from someone who was brought up in a Council house...

Can I just point out that not everyone on benefits sits on their bottoms, some are on benefits due to illnesses, a job loss or due to being a carer for a disabled parent, sibling or child etc.

    Snipped to suit. :o

Sue, I myself have been unable to work for x years due to illness/disability. I'm the last person to judge in that respect, but sometimes people take the peamontalo (sp).

But, in fairness, no one has argued about her benefit entitlement, the argument seems to be about her/general council housing allocations.

It's [like it or not] a bugbear we all have.
  • "afforded the right" - you are acting like I am claiming benefits to pay for it. I WORK to house my pet.

You are all completely missing the point - this was about the council's failure to protect my family from a man that they know has caused problems for others in the past and I am being penalised for it. I am living on less than someone on income support due to this and the I think the council should be providing us with more support financially than they are.

I asked if they would let us keep the pet in the house as this is fine in council homes but was told no. They have put us in a four bedroom of which we only need 2 bedrooms just now and asked if we could store our stuff in one of the spare rooms and was told no - helping us with this would have saved us over £800 a month. They are treating us like the culprits!

if you dont like what the council are doing for you why dont you rent private? this will save on kennel fees, storage charges and probably lower rent than at present.

In all fairness, some of us do spend alot of money doing up our houses, I want my flat to look nice and for my flat to look the way I want it to look a few hundred pounds aint gonna cut it........BUT I will pay the money out in the knowledge that I could not be there forever ('owning' your own house does not guarantee it for life either does it)

I want my house to look nice but it needs thousands and I means tens of thousands of pounds. New kitchen, new carpets through out etc etc etc.

But I can't afford it so do the best with the money and income I have. You still don't need to spend thousands to get house up to a nice standard in decoration terms. Paper and paint is cheap.

And if I remember the OP has been on benefits for a while. So even more  that could afford to spend thousands.

And personally if I was in private rent I would never spend silly money on decorating etc. As it is never going to be mine. Unlike someone who buys when the mortgage ends they own the house.

The OP is not on benefits?
Also I was talking about council flats/houses, not private rentals, no way would I decorate a private let.
But as said before, when I finally get my permanent flat (or house with any bloody luck) I will be putting time, effort and money to make it look exactly how I want it.
I'm not talking thousands for decorating, I managed to decorate my living room for about £60 before I was forced out, my ex's dad done the decorating to a professional standard too, but I want to get nice sofas, beds for the kids, furnishings, blinds etc, this stuff is where the money is mainly spent.
That is why I am working hard now to put money away for when that day comes.

Um why would you need storage of you came from a 3 bed into a 4 bed?? doesnt make sense?

So they have given you a temporary house which is too big for your needs with 24 hr protection that you dont need? How ridiculous?
I really think you need to make a complaint, something isnt right here?

SO they have give you a 4 bed house but are saying you can only use 2 of the rooms? seems a bit stupid, just wack your stuff in there, do they come round and check each room?

Yes, they check each room to make sure that it's tidy, and the radiators etc are working. They have a little checklist. It's a massive property and a nightmare to heat. I get what some of you are saying just feel let downn by the lack of support from the council.

I was claiming benefits from when I was 6 months pregnant in October 2009 until when my daughter was 8 months old.
