that is by law.
1. It doesn't apply to all shops
2. How about changing the law?
3. How about removing restrictions where there don't need to be any?
4. Why is Sunday different to 3a.m. on Thursday morning?
5. I thought we had quite a high unemployment rate so is it so hard to find the staff?0 -
Yes , I have to work on some Sundays and it is deemed to be part of my contract . I don't get paid extra when I do.
You and me both Tony.... We just get on with it
And before anyone says "more fool you" for working weekends unpaid, I'm lucky enough to work for a good employer. In recognition for doing a Sunday morning, I may get given a Tuesday afternoon off gratis. At least the supermarket, bank, hairdressers etc are open then!0 -
Hope you both get an extra day of during the week for it.

I'd do it. To be fair, I decide if I work weekends / evenings 90% of the time although my boss will ask under extreme circumstances.
I'm the number 2 in a team of 4. We all work for each other. It may sound like an idyllic set up and in some ways it is. We're a good team - we'll cover other's absences.
I'm just grateful to be holding down a full time job in the current economic climate. I appreciate things are not as rosy for everybody.0 -
I work in retail and I would hate to work longer on a Sunday: Sunday evening is the only time I can absolutely guarantee that I won't be in work to make plans for other things.
I lived in France for a year a few years back (when I didn't work in retail), and I had forgotten what it was like not to have shops open: bliss. The day was just so much more chilled out for everyone, who did other things instead. I guess for many other people who worked on Saturdays as well (in retail or not) it was the only full day when they knew that they could make plans which wouldn't have to be chopped/changed if their bosses changed their rotas at short notice. Please call me 'Pickle'

Sharon, why do you need to food shop after 17.00 on Sunday ? Open 24 hours 6 days week etc
Misconception that it is extra / premia pay, it all depends on contracts and t/c`s,newer contracts Sundays are part of..
In the past I've worked evenings or nights and some weekends. If I wanted to go shopping I had to go in the evenings, I remember having to rush out of the door to get some essentials for work food. I hate it when I realise that I haven't got something and have to rush out.0
