    Hello Ryan

    Have enjoyed reading your thread.

You have def made the right decision about staying.

In ten years or so the memories will be different and the bad days distant.

Its such a opportunity you have to really set your self up for life.

Stay as long as you can and pay off as much as you can.

Had you thought about renting the house out to a friend or family member for reduced rates and you can still stay when you come home, i would bet you have a friend similar age still at home who would love the chance to move out and house sit for a while.

    Good luck.

I would opt for Option 1 in your position. A little bit of psychology... put yourself in the your own shoes at the age of 30,40,50... what do you think your priorities will be then?

As a 40 year old, I'd love to be able to give my 20 year old self some good advice, but it's too late for that. Consider very carefully. You're young, there's plenty of time for relationships and the employee situation here is poor.

    Cheers,

    Drew.

    Hey Drew,

Just read your blog!! Well done!! You really have your head screwed on. It's getting addictive this money saving / mortgage paying lark! I'll be staying in at the wkends soon if I carry on at this rate!

I think I should think about the future, if I can do a few years out here then I will reap the benefits in years to come.

I too have been trying to tell my friends to start saving and "sort their lives out". !!!!ing their money up the wall every other night. They look at me and think "How the !!!! did he get a house and mortgage". They have never said it but can tell they think it.

It is scary as hell though. In debt to the tune of 85K!

Well done Ryan, I am sure you have done the right thing. Take it 6 months at a time and you'll have that mortgage hammered in no time.

Then you can meet my daughter ;)

I understand the situation you are in, as I was abroad for a year - but mine was always a limited stay so I didn't feel under such pressure. But I have been in jobs that were going though difficult stages and found that living it month by month was a great help... "I will stay another month and reassess then.." - it worked like a dream in allowing me to weather bad feelings. Time is slow at your age, but you really do have a long time before you 'need' to settle down and you cannot beat having a good financial start. I worked hard to get my mortgage clear, and although my health has deteriorated I am not in such a bad position as my house is almost paid for.

Well done for sticking to it... and keep reminding yourself "...I can always leave" .... then pocket the money :-)

If it wasn't for my family I already would BE mortgage free :rotfl:. Thinking of moving & not telling them where I've gone - but my memory is not what it used to be so I'd probably forget where the new house was and have no-one to ask :o
