Blue Badge

2 quid every three years with me.................and its about time the abuse was addressed.....
the renewals are now done in person (not posted), as from april you have a meeting then they issue you the badge straight away,......or not as the case may well be....
so looks like so councils are taking abuse seriously0 -
I hope they do clamp down on it, most of the abuse I see is people who dont leave blue badges and must be able bodied otherwise why park in a disabled space when you dont leave badge out
Most of the abuse I see is on private land unfortunately nothing is never done and this wont help either.
Most of the 'abuse' you see is on private land? :rotfl:
Sorry but - how the heck do you know it's abuse, who is anyone to judge?
On private land, such as in a Supermarket car park - like parsons mentioned spending an hour watching people (OMG!) - then surely we clued-up MSEers all know that no Blue Badge is required - so it's absolutely pointless hounding people for parking there.
Disabled (and Parent&Child) bays, as well as any pretty lines, pretend double yellows etc. on private land are advisory only. Never mind the t&cs on the signs, if you are entitled to park there, then park there, the Equality Act allows you to if you fit the definition of disability (not 'if you show a Blue Badge').
If anyone actually believes the 'Baywatch' campaign figures issued by the much-criticised charity known as Mobilise (who also publish Disability Now I understand) about alleged 'bay abuse' they are sadly deluded. Much is made of those alleged 'bay abuse' figures on private land but they are not worth the paper they are written on if you don't know whether the driver was entitled to park there.
Of course just looking at the driver walking away from the car does NOT tell you anything about a disability they or their passenger/pick up may have - a survey might be relevant but Mobilise don't bother with that. They make a shocking assumption due to no badge being displayed and a shocking amount of people also fall for this 'assumed abuse' spiel as well. As an ex-Disablility Advice Manager and having 3 relatives who have/had disabilities I am amazed that people suck up the rubbish about private land 'bay abuse' and actually watch people and make judgements about them.
Here's the parking forum where we have threads on the subject including one dedicated to exposing Mobilise's practices along with their favourite parking co., UKCPS:
http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/forumdisplay.php?f=163
IMHO Mobilise have more interest in supporting certain 'partnership' parking companies in making money than they do about supporting genuine disabled people entitled to park in Supermarkets in their advisory disabled bays. We have cases on our board where Mobilise have not supported severely disabled people hounded to County Court by UKCPS for parking where they are legally entitled to!
If you have an interest in the subject please come over to that board and comment on some threads. I must make it clear that none of the regulars there condone people parking in disabled bays if there's no DDA entitlement for them or a passenger to do so, BTW.
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

Some supermarkets are the size of a football pitch.
I feel that if those who abuse the system can park outside the supermarket and walk about getting their shopping, well they must have walked hundreds and hundreds of yards up and down the aisles with their shopping trolleys.
My personal opinion is that they do not deserve the BB.
Do you even need a BB to park in a disabled space in supermarket? I know the local Sainsburys says you have to be registered disabled to use one...Sealed pot challenge #232. Gold stars from Sue-UU - :staradmin :staradmin £75.29 banked

I did my shopping this morning, if I don't do it, then it doesn't get done and the house will have no food (home delivery can be awkward because I can and do get called to the school often.....and in the past, right at the time a home delivery was due!)
I dragged myself around the shop, in extreme pain every step, literally clinging onto the trolley to keep me upright.
Thing was, I probably looked perfectly ok as apart from the occasional grimace, I kept my pain to myself (parents taught me to always have a smile on my face), so others could be the same. Or it could be that that shopping trip would then wipe them out for the next week....you can never really know.
I don't have a blue badge, nor do I park in a disabled bay though, so at least I don't have to feel like I am looking over my shoulder and worrying about what others are thinking. We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.

I could not walk around a shop let alone a supermarket and could not manage without home delivery but I do know people that hire out the shops buggies or use the wheelchairs in there so they don't always walk around the store.
I do think there is a lot of abuse though and it makes me angry when spaces are taken up by people who should not be using them. I know of a person who uses her sisters badge as she keeps it with her all the time because her sister does not have a car. She goes out parking all over the place and sees nothing wrong with it. There are very few disabled spaces in all car parks compared to the amount of non disabled ones so they easily get filled up, no doubt many times a disabled person has struggled so that she can park, it is very selfish and thoughtless.

Is it possible for you to have your shopping delivered out of school hours as they deliver up to as late as 11pm and Sat and Sun. Also it sounds like you should probably be using a blue badge for yourself and your 3 disabled sons, I'm surprised you don't have one already.Thanx

That is a possibility, I suppose old habits die hard.
I don't have one as I have never applied for one (for myself)...mainly because I am pig head stubborn :rotfl:. The same with DLA, until I actually see myself as disabled, I will not claim....again that old stubborness (and maybe a little bit of denial).
That said, I have been thinking more and more about asking the doctor about a blue badge (only asking rather than applying) and if it would be a good idea for me, especially when I am struggling to go into the town centre. We made it! I'm surprised they don't ask for the BB back once the owner has passed away.
That is one of the rules.

I live in North Kent and at the moment there is no charge for the badges.I have a motobility car and a blue badge without which I would not be able to lead the life I do.I try to be as independant as possible, and will for as long as I can.Even if they start to charge £10.00 for a blue badge ,if it stops mis-use it will be worth every penny £10.00 over three years is affordable and reasonable I think around 7p per week pretty good value0
