Have definitely decided not to move till this mortgage is completely paid off, despite really wanting to move!

    15 months to go now...

OP £537 (in a few days time, when cheque clears).
Couldn't resist raiding charity shops for summer reading stuff though - and stuff for my class for September: just HAD to buy Winnie the Pooh book :) Partly for my enjoyment, not just theirs!
Looking forward to reading 'Stephen Fry in America' over next few days...

  • I'm so enjoying reading your updates. I'm mortgage free thanks to MSE and MFW inspiration! Since then I've gone the other way re living space and downsized, and gone part-time at work, for health reasons... which were snapping at my heels when I was racing to clear the mortgage!

I really enjoy my part-time life and with less stress, my health is improving all the time.

I'll be cheering you on over the months.

  • Thanks Groatie Queen! I might go down the part-time road myself in a few years...
To be honest, I don't mind if no-one replies to this thread - I find doing this motivates me to overpay because i feel guilty if I don't (and it's satisfying looking back at where I was a year ago etc.!)

    OP £1000
    Approx £13,250 to go...
  • Just checked with First Direct £13,346.59 to go (a bit more than I expected.... grrrrrrr)

By the way, suspect it's best for me to stay with FD if I intend to pay off mortgage by end of 2013, but will go onto their SVR end of next month. Is this the right thing to do? Their current SVR is 3.69% (for my mortgage, anyway) but I know there is a trend of banks increasing SVRs at the moment...

TBH you would probably struggle to find someone who would accept you with such a piddly mortgage, plus the cost of moving (fees, valuations etc) would only be worth while if you were borrowing a lot.

Have you thought about a 0% credit card? Not sure how it works, I know in a convoluted way you can transfer your balance, and some only have a 2% fee. Ideal if you can pay off by end of 2013?
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort
    :) Mortgage Balance = £0 :)
