A&L have sent me a cheque for a quarter of what I'm claiming on MCOL ... sending a rejection letter today and returning the cheque, using a template on the Consumer Action Group website.
They've also acknowledged today (presumably hoping I'll accept the cheque:rolleyes:), though they had 'til the 30/4 to do so.
Been in a bit of a panic as I've realised neither the courts nor the bank have a list of interest charges, though I did initially send the bank just a list of charges I'm claiming for. I'll enclose the detailed spreadsheet with my rejection letter and have contacted MCOL (very helpful), who I'm emailing it to.
Once everything's done, I just sit back and wait (and hope it doesn't reach court:rolleyes:).

I am now with Natwest because I was unhappy with the charges I was getting with Alliance and Leicester, and closed down my account and moved.
My husband says not to bother with relaiming the charges because in total it will only be about £100, but it was the principle that annoyed me enough to move banks in the first place.
Two questions really is it worth bothering?
and if I had a couple of accounts with them can I do this jointly or do I have to do separate letters/£10 cheques?
Thanks
PS Any tips for Alliance and Leicester accounts?0 -
I believe Narborough is the Head Office address, which is the one which should be used when your case is progressing. It's certainly the address I've used.
Hi, has anyone got the full address of A&L in Narborough ?http://img.moneysavingexpert.com/smilies/confused-smiley-013.gif
Thanks

The Alliance & Leicester appears to have acknowledged that a fee of only £4.50 might be a fair charge for bouncing cheques.
The bank has put this charge forward to settle a customer's claim for the refund of £2,035 in overdraft fees.
The letter to the customer, who wishes to remain anonymous, quotes research for a recent BBC Money Programme as the basis of its offer.
The bank's standard charge for bouncing a cheque is currently £25. <!-- E SF -->
The Alliance & Leicester's letter was sent from its customer service centre in Bootle in January.
It argues that the charges levied on the customer's account for going overdrawn without permission were "raised correctly in accordance with the terms and conditions of the account."
But it then goes on to say: "A recent report commissioned by the BBC claimed the cost would be no more than £4.50.
"Therefore, I propose to offer you the difference from £4.50 up to the amount of charges that were raised, which totals £1,558."
One-off offer?
The offer to calculate the charges at just £4.50 each appears to be a one-off offer, as the letter goes on to stress that any future charges for bouncing cheques would be charged at the published, higher, rate.
A spokesman for the bank said: "Each case is considered on its own merits. There is no blanket policy to offer to cut charges to just £4.50."
Even so, the proposal seems to be a break with the current practice of all the high street banks who argue vigorously in defence of their overdraft fees, claiming that they are fair and not unlawful. However, Marc Gander of the Consumer Action Group, which has been leading the campaign against bank overdraft charges, said: "This is a wholly unusual letter. They always say their charges are transparent and reasonable.0 -

Have had great fun reclaiming so far.Every time scale has been put to the limit. All delay tactics.
So far i have had to wait a month for my statements (but banked £10 cheque next day).
Then over 40 days for reply to my letter asking for refund.
Have since recieved a letter saying that the OFT is only referring to 'credit card charges'!
Laughed and issued writ to small claims court.Have now recieved cheque for £720 (without prejudice),which is way short of my claim and has been destroyed.
Recieved letter from their solicitors today as they intend to defend. Will keep you updated.0 -

The only help i can give is ti visit consumeractiongroup.co.uk they have some fantastic threads on there for every bank imaginable, and very good advise. I felt a lot happier after going on their forum yesterday. Good luck and dont give up. They are using delay tactics, use the templates on the web site it makes it all easier.0
