Thought about walking into your branch and asking them if they can stop the charges and possibly waive them?

You should conduct communication in writing, rather than calling them. What was their last response to you?

Alliance and Leicester have applied nearly £1,400 in charges to my current account over the past five and a half years. Now I freely admit that much of this (not all) was down to my financial mismanagement and I'd happily accept a £12 for each time I've incurred a charge.

However, has there been anyone who has been paid out by A&L since the stays have been put in place? It seems as if they are quite a stubborn bank and I'm unsure about whether the option of an 'offer' is worthwhile - has anyone had any success? Or is this likely to go the distance?

  • Hi I went £1.41 overdrawn and did not know about it until I checked and now have paid £85 in charges and owe them another £40 on the 17th of this month all due to £1.41 overdrawn. Now I've been reluctant to claim back charges up till now but I'm now going to claim back the last 6 Years because of this. I thought I was talking to them about an Isolated incident but they are refusing any claims untill the test case is sorted. Everybody needs to get into them now as they will not be shy in taking money from you.

A&L have "relieved" me of £50 this month.

One was my fault, as I thought a new DD came out on the 25th and it came out on the 20th.

Today another DD has been collected which I set up but wasn't informed of in writing by the company as to when it would collect.

I'm gonna try ringing A&L to see if I can have it reversed, as I hadn't agreed to the collection date.

Same thing happen to me and it was because their Online banking system nevers seems to be up to date. All they do is send you a standard reply. I have only incurred a £25 charge but it is still £25 of my money.
Also on a side note, I asked them to reverse a DD which had been taken early although it had not caused me to go overdrawn and they had the cheek to impose a £25 penalty charge for reversing it. It was only when I pointed the rules regarding DDs etc and that if they did not reverse the charge I would report them to the FOS that they refunded my account!

I'm in a similar position. My account was in credit - barely! - but they slapped on a £5 underfunding charge which pushed me overdrawn.

As I had no cash in the account I didn't bother checking it. Unfortunately I have received a letter saying I am £230~ in the red as a result! What gets me most is that if they had sent an email saying "we're gonna charge you £5 if you don't fund your account" I would happily have obliged. Instead they didn't even send an email when the £5 charge made me overdrawn.

Their reasoning, "It's an internet account, Sir, it is up to you to manage your money."

Absolute criminals, steer well clear. I think its funny that their share price, a quarter of its value last year, is a very accurate reflection of how this bank does business -

    without doubt, worthless!

Sorry for the rant and good luck fighting them for the cash they owe you.
