Hi,
I logged on to internet banking after leaving my accout idel for a few weeks only to notice I had been charge £115 for being £2 overdrawn. The absolute jokers. I called them up and was told not even the manager scould credit these charges back but that they would send a request to there dedicated department for dealing with these issues.
Just wondering anyone else been in a similar position with A&L and if so how did that turn out?
Cant help but feel this is an absolute disgrace - it was only there rubbish exchange rates that put me over anyway!0 -
I am in the same predicament. I left my account ,which I thought I was in credit after paying off an 'underfunding fee'. The underfunding fee turned into an overdfraft usage fee. I paid the overdraft usage fee and was shown 10 in credict so left account alone cos I don't use it. Logged in today just to check and I now owe them £390!!!
I am going to pay it off which to date comes to 540 quid ( £5 a day overdraft fee now) and then try to pursue them through the reclaim forms on this site.
The way they provide statements is very misleading.0 -
Today I received a letter from customer services with a demand for £390 plus any other overdraught fees. It also said that if I make any other transactions against my account it will constitute a criminal offence under the theft act 1968. This is unbelievable as i haven't made any transactions and the the whole amount due is a result of the fees they have imposed from a £5 overdraught usage fee which stemmed from a £5 charge of an underfunding fee, it's crazy!!! I am also furious because they have also made my balance unavailable online so I can't even argue against them.:mad:0

Found out final balance is £475.50 to date. Couldn't pay off as they only accept cash and max withdrawal is 300 from my other current account so will have to pay in full on monday so another few quid. so am looking at around £500. If i pay online it would probably take 3/ 4 days to clear which would add another 3 days @ £5 per day fees. So if I pay in full ,today, online i will still be in debt and occuring more fees. It is mental.0

I have seen numerous threads on Alliance and Leicesters' overdraught fees where small amounts have cascaded into huge fees. Is it possible to consolidate the Alliance and Leicesters threads and complaints into one single topic. That way we might be able to gain some ground on the dodgy practice of unlawful and misleading online account representations and their habit of escalating penalties from 50p per day to five pound per day without notice and without reason. Their behavior is tantamount to a a legal shark loan considering all these charges are fees not from money borrowed , but beacause I failed to put in 1000 pound per month so I am charged with £5 underfunding fee( not putting in a minimum of 100 £ per month) which pooled over to me being overdraught tothe sum of £5 which led to a fee of £15 of which I paid £25 to cover the £15 overdraught fee of 50p upto a maximum of £5 but I paid that amount 15 days in arrears which led me to be another £5 overdue. Between my payment of 25 quid my online account showed a zero balance so I left it alone. Because of the nature of A@Ls online accounting my true balance was not shown and effectively behind my back they had added another fee which has gone from 50p per day , upto a max of £5 for that month to £5 per day. Any ways I think I have 2 flaws in theur system.
1. Their online account is not upto date and is not a true day to day representation resulting in false accounting.
2. Its is not a true online account as I have never received any notification via email of my account status, balance, fees etc.
3. They have acted improperly by not allowing online access to my account.
These are just a few complaints I have and If anybody else has had similar experiences please do hesitate to add to this thread and I would be grateful if the moderators would combine all Alliance and Leicester threads , as I will be contacting watchdog and the Financial Ombudsman, after all £475 quid for a £5 fee seems alittle bit extortionate.0 -
I went and paid £550 into the account yesterday just in case they have added other charges. This is in an attempt to stop a further threatened £15 fee for not paying the fees of the fees. I have never been in a situation like this where the cause of these fees is due to a fee. In fact I hardley used the account. Has anyone succesfully challenged A&L and if so how did you go about it.
Also is it possible for the moderators to put the A&L threads together as it seems that this kind of practise is common with Alliance and Leicester customers. It looks like a huge fiddle to me.0 -
hi
A&L arnt good but there not the only bank/building society that are bad. thats the whole point of reclaiming bank charges.
there are so many threads its not possible for anyone to tie them all up but they do try.
good luck with getting you money back all be it some years away as it is for most of us here.

thanks mods for merging the thread. maybe we can all accumulate our experiences and deal with the outrageous action of Alliance and leicester and stop this abuse of unwitting fees and charges.0

Hi, just wondering when can we start claiming back these unfair charges? I've complained to A&L for the last 2 years for £80 of unfair charges and they have just kept replying saying I have to wait for this damn court case to finish.. I thought this court case was supposed to finish earlier this year but apparently something is still going on?0

Over the past few weeks, I have been reading loads on reclaiming bank charges. I fully understand the position re claims being on hold, but read an article earlier stating that (I believe) the banks subject to the current enquirty are Abbey, Barclays, Clydesdale, HSBOS, HSBC, Lloyds, RBS (inc Nat West) and the Nationwide. There is no mention of Alliance and Leicester.
Sorry for my ignorance but does this mean that claims against the Alliance and Leicester are not on hold ????0
