I am going to ditch A&L soon. I was about £200 short of my O/D limit 2 days before my wages went in. They changed the date on a standing order  so it came out the day before my wages went in instead of the last day of the month so I went over cos the SO was for £300. When I called them, they were VERY rude and aggressive  and said it was my fault, they wouldn't have changed it without me calling them. I asked if they could please find the call because I hadn't made it, and they changed their tune and started saying I hadn't called, I had changed it online so it was still my fault. Why would I do something so stupid?
They still refuse to accept responsibilty, and I got charged twice for it - over limit fee and the payment fee for paying the SO I think it was £25 and £35. This was back in June, my OD hasn't been anywhere near so high since, so even if it happened again, I wouldn't go over. As from next month I will be back in credit and thats when I am switching!

  • Hi,

Was hoping someone could provide me with some advice with A&L and charges they have levied on our account over the past couple of months.

I spoke with A&L to increase our overdraft limit by £50.00 which they agreed to. They confirmed the increase would happen the same day, which I requested. A few weeks later, whilst checking our online banking I found they had levied a £25 overdraft charge to the account, even though they confirmed the increase was actioned.

The next occasion was to pay a cheque. I called the previous day to see if they would increase our overdraft by £3.00 which they declined, even though a few months previous they said we could increase by £500 if we wanted, I still had £400 at that point if required. The next day, we got charged £25.00 for a payment of a cheque and £25.00 for going overdrawn !! We had enough money in one of my other accounts with them, but was unable to transfer the money across, although they conveniently never mentioned it.

Last week, they charged me £25.00 for the payment of a DD despite there being enough money in the account. I have complained and they have said due to the OFT test case I cannot have the money back. They have said this on the other two occasions. I would appreciate if this is correct as far as I am concerned the first and third occasion was their fault, yet they keep quoting the test case.

Can anyone offer me so advice, as I get sick of hearing their same standard OTF test case response.

    Many thanks.

  • Hi

A&L have charged me £30.00 for underfunding my account (£5.00 every month). I have written to them stating that these charges are unfair using the template letter. They wrote back saying that the charges were in line with thr T&Cs of the account. I called them and appealed against this, and received another letter saying the same thing and that I should write to the OFT if I have any more to say. What to do next?

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks

Hi, had even more problems resulting in £200 charges for being £25 overdrawn. Didn't get the letters due to postal strike. Made 2 complaints via phone and was fobbed off each time and received 2 of the standard letters.

I'm really angry that they appear to be profiting from this test case. Their charges are getting completely out of hand. On their website it states that they filter complaints for cases of severe financial difficulty. Well, I've never been asked any questions to see whether we were suffering this, has anyone else??

I've emailed watchdog about this. I believe that they are hiding behind the OFT case deliberately and are acting completely unethically.

Given that so many people on here are experiencing such distressing times wiht A&L, can we all email/write/phone Watchdog too. If everybody did it, I am sure they would listen to us!

    Thanks

  • Bloody Alliance & Leicester! I'm sure this has already been posted but they have changed their fee structure and also the names they give their fees. The one I'm moaning about is the Payment Review Fee, which is basically where they honour a transaction even when you don't have ££ in your account.

The small print says that as long as your transaction is £10 or under you won't be charged. Which is a shame for my £10.20 cheque. Yep, they have charged me £25 for going 20p over their limit. Customer Services won't refund anything until the test case is resolved. Apparently.

I do realise that if I misuse the account or do not stick to the terms and conditions that I should be liable for something - but £25 for 20p??? Can anyone with any maths knowledge work out exactly what that is penny by penny? Grrrrr.
  • Bloody Alliance & Leicester indeed. I was just over £8.60 OD for 7 days and got charged £50 as it was over 2 statement periods, the cheque that sent me OD was for £10 so why i got charged i don't know.

  • hi

i assume they wont charge if the cheque is for less than £10 not how much the cheque takes you over your agreed overdraft limit?

i got caught with one of them this week (£5 odd over) even tho i paid in cash (£20) the same day it went over i caught the charge of £25. seems they do all the outs before the ins.

    Hi, i have! :o

I have one claim that is at court stage for £1500 but is currently 'stayed' and since then i've had more charges so did the whole process again and this time (for only 2 months) they owe me £300 but got standard letter back saying "waiting for outcome of OFT result" blah blah blah...

Don't know wether i should go straight to MCOL stage and log it??

I have charges coming out again so will do another claim.....

Quidco to date = £1224 cashback
