Any thoughts on the best network to achieve:-

    - one rate to all UK numbers (fixed / any network)
    - previous call details and costs on-line (like EasyMobile)
    - roaming

As far as I can see, there isn't one which gives all three.

Also, I asked EasyM if I could both take up the Fresh offer, and port my number out to another supplier.

Idea was to use existing number for incoming (with Tesco for example), but perhaps use Fresh for outgoing (with low call rates to other networks).

Unfortunately the answer was "no" - still, no harm in trying...
I think there is a way round that.Just click on the offer to port your number to Fresh.EM will send you e-mail with pac.Just use that pac to port to whoever and still recieve your free Fresh sim with £10 free credit loaded on!.Or just bin the fresh sim if its no use to you(you dont have any ties with fresh until you register your details with bank account etc)......Neil

Why are people commenting on easyMobile customers being missed by other networks?

There were only 80,000 or so, and half of these probably never spent any money.

Contrast that to occasional free SIM offers in the past getting through 3000 within a day. Nowadays these offers are virtually permanent.

T-mobile is 12 pence a minute all networks, or on another option 5 pence to other T-mob numbers

I'm not sure Fresh has roaming.

Fresh gives all of those - 15p a minute to any UK number, itemised billing online (99p a month), roaming - easy to setup after a month or two's direct debit, or give a deposit if you don't want to wait.

Thanks - how does their direct debit work given that it's a PAYG - does it click in at a certain balance (like EasyM) or is it a set amount per month?

Also, is there a website where you can get details of all of these things?

Finally (I think...) can their answer service be turned on and off without charge (by short code or whatever...)?

PS someone else said Stelios might come back with another deal or company or something... personally I'd have no hesitation in going back if the charges and T&Cs were pretty much Easymobile's ... but has he said something about this???

Stelios is quoted as saying that "The customers will be offered options, some will leave and some will stay and some will come back."

Of course, it's not possible "to stay" if it is desired to keep one's existing number - this has to be ported out before service closure to remain live (and ported back in again if / when the new EasyMobile rises from the ashes...)

Here's hoping he'll be back before long - I must admit, EasyM had everything right for me (except for their one minute minimum call charge...).
  • I was aghast to see Fresh mentioned on the easyMobile website as an alternative. I joined easyMobile to get away from Fresh whom I haven't yet completely shaken off as they still make unauthorised debits to the credit card I first used to purchase a SIM even tho' said SIM was destroyed over a year ago! Fresh is Carphone Warehouse which I rate as one of the worst companies in the UK from a customer perspective. Incidentally, my son found himself working for them through a temp agency and quickly resigned because the alternative was to deceive or be sacked; 'nuff said.

I've ordered a couple of T Mobile SIM's for myself and my wife to replace our easyMobile ones - they're currently free from the T Mobile website, not even the usual 50p. At 12p/min it's cheaper than easyMobile - not sure if there's a catch. I go abroad a fair bit and the T Mobile PAYG roaming rates are pretty horrendous but I reckon I'll get a 'roaming SIM' for future trips so that's not a concern for me.

Well I will take the free £10 credit from fresh and then close the account.

I had over £100 of credit from easy so another 4 x £10 from fresh will do nicely.

Plus the quidco credits for the easy sims. The gravy train had to derail.

easyMobile was not a product designed and run by easyGroup, contracted out to a supplier who has been sacked while a replacement is found; it was a service of TDC, paying a licence fee to easy for use of the brand name, employing all the staff and meeting all other costs.

So if easyM is to return with another deal, it would appear to depend on another company wanting to start an mvno, and deciding to pay to use the easy brand, as easy currently has no infrastructure to do so itself and specialises in these rebrand licence deals.

Despite the power of the internet, maybe this shows that some products are still easier to market in the shops.
  • Well, it's up for grabs if anyone wants to buy it. Hopefully the next buyer will know something about online marketing.

Bit like a single owner franchise.
Order of events: Banks lose our money -> get bailed out -> were inflating GBP to cover it -> now taxing us -> next will grab your funds direct -> things get really desperate to balance the books. What should have happened?: banks go bust and we lost our money much quicker
  • I did make a jokey comment in the "MoneySaver's Arms" section about Martin having 750,000 subcribers, but nobody wanted to dip their toe into the water with that one !
