I used the pampers sensitive wipes on ds until he was about a month old then just bought what ever was on offer. Didn't bother faffing on with water and cotton wool and he was fine.0

My daughter's just had her first baby, a gorgeous boy born on Tuesday. When she changed his nappy today she was fussing around with boiled cooled water and cotton wool balls to clean his bottom (and all up his back:)) after a dramatic poo.
I asked her why she wasn't using baby wipes which would be much less hassle and she was horrified.
Apparently at her ante natal classes they were told baby wipes contain loads of chemicals and asked would they REALLY put these chemicals on a newborn's delicate skin.
I've certainly never heard that before and wonder if anyone else has?
Everything contains loads of chemicals and we are all made of chemicals.
If the people objecting to wipes can identify the chemicals and explain why they are bad for newborns, but ok for older babies...then maybe we should worry? Please do not confuse me with other gratefulsforhelp. x0 -
I don't want to advertise any brands, but my daughter used all herbal natural baby wipes. They worked just fine. I can't imagine how much work it can be, using water and cotton wool balls. If you daughter really want to keep going all natural, this website has a few recipes to make your own baby wipes: http://www.naturalbirthandbabycare.com/homemade-baby-wipes-recipes.html0

I gave up with cotton wool after 3 days of having a fluffy baby, switched to re-usable wipes.0

There are lots of different chemicals in baby products including SLS, SLES, PARABENS, FRAGRANCE and even Alcahol (don't think i've spelt that right but have just had a glass of "Alcahol" so should be forgiven) depending on which brand you are buying. You can get organic, chemical free wipes if you want something a bit easier than cotton wool and boiled water. One Step at a Time0

You made me laugh out loud and nearly split my wine with this post0 -
I used cooton wool and cooled water for first month with my two. As advised then. I would advise to leave your daughter alone and let her do what she feels is right. i had my MIL living with us for first few years 'sticking her nose in' and giving 'advice' and all I wanted and needed to do was get along on my own and learnmyself. I felt my self confidence just zapped away when she questioned little things and everything. and trying to impose her ideas. each mother learns on their own through time and perhaps through their own small mistakes so step back and let her get on with itand enjoy her new baby.0

If babies have a sore bum, then wipes are going to make it worse. In this case you need cotton wool and water (tap is fine!) and some great cream.
Baby wipes are fine inbetween regardless of age.
But ultimately, its down to whatever Mum wants to use and she feels happy and comfortable with.0 -

I have read some stuff about Parabens being less than fabulous, but you can get wipes without. Please do not confuse me with other gratefulsforhelp. x0 -
I used cotton wool and water for a while at home, but out and about good old wetwipes.
Use mainly wetwipes now unless they`re sore then back to cotton wool. xmum to; Two Boys (Non id twins)Two Girls (Id twins)0
