baby wipes bad for baby???

Options
My daughter's just had her first baby, a gorgeous boy born on Tuesday. When she changed his nappy today she was fussing around with boiled cooled water and cotton wool balls to clean his bottom (and all up his back:)) after a dramatic poo.

I asked her why she wasn't using baby wipes which would be much less hassle and she was horrified.

Apparently at her ante natal classes they were told baby wipes contain loads of chemicals and asked would they REALLY put these chemicals on a newborn's delicate skin.

I've certainly never heard that before and wonder if anyone else has?

  • i never used baby wipes on my little ones bums when they were new born. not till they were quite a bit older. especially if they had any sort of nappy rash, can you imagaine how much that would sting.

Hi there, and congrats on the new arrival. This may be right as my son who is 26, uses johnson babywipes to clean the white parts of his sneekers with!!! so if they can clean these, they must have good chemicals in them!!. On saying that, there is not anyone i know that did not use babywipes for the intended purpose, me included.

    I've been Money Tipped!
I was told this when had my DS 3 1/2 years ago .... however the fact people have been using them for years with no issues plus the convenience won for me

Also baby wipes are fab for wiping walls, skirting boards spills hands etc wouldn't be without them even now :)

I used cooled boiled water for the first few weeks for both of mine. Just as well, as mine have sensitive skin,.

I'm pretty sure I heard midwife tell someone off for having baby wipes - the new mum in question had to lie they were for herself!
I've heard it, considered it, and promptly ignored it. It's easy in hospital with a newborn as everything you need is provided and in hands reach. I know only one person who used water and cotton wool even when out and about!
Baby wipes should be introduced to everyone even before they have babies lol
