I've not heard that baby wipes were 'dangerous' (isn't everything nowdays?!), however my mum and dad used just water on us: we were fine. I used water at first but it was such a MASSIVE faf I couldn't be bothered anymore and went onto wipes after about the 3rd day. My DD was fine too.0

if they are that dangerous why do so many get sold
all my three had wipes and they are all fine0 -
I don't know about dangerous, but I never used them til mine were quite a bit bigger, they are eight and eleven now. I seem to remember the midwife saying that they recommended water and cotton wool for newborns in case of allergies and because it was just much easier for cleaning the meconium. There have been a few threads about homemade fleece wipes on here, basically from what I can tell, fleece blankets cut into suquares and used as reuseable wipes. Maybe you could suggest these to your daughter, they might appeal to her, and much better for the environment that all that cotton wool, I personally just used facecloths, and took damp ones presoaked in babywash when out and about, in a ziplock bag. It's what is inside your head that matters in life - not what's outside your windowEvery worthwhile accomplishment, big or little, has its stages of drudgery and triumph; a beginning, a struggle and a victory. - Ghandi0

I sneeked a pack of wipes to hospital when I had DD thinking I'd be told off... but one of the midwives used them anyway!!
Used them with both DS and DD from day 1 and both never had any problems. Bums are still lovely;)BLOWINGBUBBLES:kisses2: SMARTIE120 -
Another vote for wipes :rotfl:
I wouldn't force the issue with your daughter though, she won't be feeling too reasonable (I was a seething mass of hormones at that point after birth!) just leave it be and she'll see the light soon enough when there are eplosions whilst in townMum of several with a twisted sense of humour and a laundry obsession:o

I used cool boiled water and cotton wool for about 5 weeks on both my girls. I saw the damage wipes can do on my neighbours baby! Poor thing was in agony.
I also did not use any faffy johnsons wash or lotion on my babies, they are full of purfumes and colours which are not needed on delicate skin.0 -
we werent allowed wipes in hospital for any of my 3. the midwife even told dh off when he tried changing ds and got out the pack.
as soon as we left we used them! But have found that johnsons give all 3 of mine rashes but they have been fine with the rest.

We were told cooled boiled water and cotton wool for newborn top and tailing.
Didn't last - although I wouldn't use the cheap wipes as they stung my hands, I wouldn't have dreamed of using them on nappy rash.
Johnson's baby wipes, always (didn't use their lotion or bath though, as it made DD1's skin worse - used Infacare, which didn't). And it had the advantage
of being perfect for cleaning the leather sofa as well.
Some people moan about the chemicals in creams to treat the nappy rash resulting from only using plain water.
Still buy the wipes now when they are on special offer - DD uses them regularly to remove eye makeup, as eye makeup remover pads sting.I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll0 -
They've got some new Eco wipes at Asda now, which are all natural think about £1.77 for 72 wipes at the mo, i've just got some for taking my make up off, cheaper than facial wipes and no chemicals
Edit and they are biodegradable too lol.0 -
