Speeding Fine

I'm not saying your lying, but in all the years of seeing people claim they've been done for less than 35mph in a 30mph zone, not one has been able to produce proof (scan of NIP etc). Also, you say you were measured about 5 yards past the limit change, but I can't see an operator measuring you at that distance into the new limit just incase your still in the old limit as it would be hard to tell at a distance.Think yourslef lucky OP, I was convicted for doing 34mph at about 5 yards past the 30mph sign, (on a national speed limit road).0

I live in south yorkshire and just got a letter today stating i am being fined for doing 35 in a 30 zone..(its one of those roads that suddenly changes from 40 to 30 to catch you out) i'm a student nurse and barely have enough money to eat, never mind pay a fine (i need my car to get to work) do you think they would let me off. what can i do?
please help its my 1st fine after 17 years of driving
Why should they? you chose to ignore the speed limit, you got caught.
If you cannot afford to get caught, there is a simple solution.;)0

You CAN get a ticket for doing 32 in a 30 limit, i know someone who did, it was in Worthing, Sussex. PleasE dont post "You Cant" YOU CAN.(Bet someone does) The old
Chestnut about 10% menas your speedo can read 33 at a true 30 and still be legal IT CANT read 27 at a true 30.0

A bloke did that at me the other week to warn of a police van but i thought it was because I was overtaking and slightly hitting the white line in the middle of the road (A5 near Oswestry) where its really wide so i just gave him the middle finger as there was plenty of room! oops! turns out he was trying to do me a favour, although i wasnt actually speeding, just going round someone well under the speed limit...0

You can get done for 31 in a 30 if needed. Speeding is an absolute offence, the limit is 30 mph so 31 is speeding.
The ACPO guidelines for 10% +2 are just that, guidelines only and that's due to speedo inaccuracies. In the cases mentioned here, the speedo would have been registering nearer 40 mph, especially in the OP's case so despite not liking the sarcasm, all the points were valid.
That said, once saw the cops in S. Yorks stood just in front of the national speed limit sign catching people coming up the road from the village (30mph) in anticipation of them opening the taps a bit!
5t.What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?0

You can. But it is basically unheard of. People tend to play down the speed that they got caught at. A lot of people say they got caught at 31mph, 32mph, 33mph but after questioning they admit it was "... or something like that"You CAN get a ticket for doing 32 in a 30 limit, i know someone who did, it was in Worthing, Sussex. It has nothing to do with speedometer inaccuracies. Speedometers are only allowed to overread by ten per cent, not underread. The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0

Any police officer will give a speeding ticket for thirty-two miles per hours, if they observe a car being driven at inappropriate speeds, for example, along a narrow residential street. The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0

In theory this is true. In practice once the car has left the factory, the speedo is never checked or calibrated again.
I know in my old 1987 Mk4 1.3 Escort (first car, bought in 2001) the speedo worked by having a curly spring that pushed the needle toward zero and a spinning magnet that pushed it towards 110 (the very optimistic indicated top speed of that car), connected to the gearbox. Over time the spring would gradually weaken and the speedo would eventually end up overreading.
My mate had a 1991 Nissan Micra and as an experiment we both drove at the same speed to compare readings. When his read 33, mine read 25. That's somewhat more than 10%.
None of this is a valid defence against speeding of course, just warning that it can happen. If in doubt, check your speedo by comparing it to a GPS while on a long straight flat road doing a constant speed.0
