Speeding Fine

  • I think at the end of the day it is down to the camera enforcement team who are under presure to catch xx amount of speeding drivers,so if they had a good week you might not have got a ticket at all. Speed cameras are not for safety they are a money making machine. I do not condone speeding it just seems to me the ones that don't get caught are the total idiots that have absoloutly no regards for speed limits/road safety.
  • Cheers for the replies guys, especially iamana1ias, that was a great reply.

    Anyway...

That's what I was thinking, no way out of it, as I was breaking the speed limit. I'll just have to make sure I'm at 30mph before I hit the damn sign next time. It's just annoying, if there was a police officer in a car behind me he wouldn't have batted an eyelid, and that I do adhere to the speed limits and don't just drive around like a muppet (another great one for sarcasm there iamana1ias ;) ).

Never mind, it could always be worse.

    Thanks again,

    Luke

Depends which police force the OP was done by. Each have their own limits (which have been rising of late, since the council make a profit off speed awareness courses)

OP: Which police force was it?

It was Gwent Police. It was at Rhiwderin, going towards Newport, if you know the one.

I know the site you mean, I sometimes go that way to work if J28 is backed up all the way onto the roundabout you were headed for. My Origin B2 always warns me that it's a mobile site, but I've never seen a van there. Guess they really do enforce it.

Sorry I don't know what the threshold for a speed awareness course is in this area though.
  • I had the impression 36mph in a 30mph zone was a national guideline for the speed awareness course.

Gwent Police say 'marginally over the limit', which could mean anything.

Keep your fingers crossed, Luke, you never know your luck.

I know some forces go as high as 39 for speed awareness nowadays. The theory is that councils don't want to fund camera partnerships, but they make a profit off speed awareness courses, so if the camera partnerships send more people on them, they are more likely to get funding and thus keep their jobs.

    Allegedly.

This can't be correct as in S.Yorks the mobile cameras are set to 'catch' motorists doing speed limit +10%+4mph, there for in a 30 mph zone the slowest you will get ticketed for is 37 mph, and yes S.Yorks do participate in the speed awareness course.

I got caught doing 37 mph by Humberside police and got 3 points and £60, someone else i know was doing over 40 in a 30 and got a speed awareness course for £80 and no points.

There are too many roads where speed limits go from national speed limit to 40 or 30 without any warning prior to the commencement signs, there should be a minimum of 100 metres notice per 10 mph drop so 70mph to 30 mph would give you 400 metres notice to slow down.

I live in south yorkshire and just got a letter today stating i am being fined for doing 35 in a 30 zone..(its one of those roads that suddenly changes from 40 to 30 to catch you out) i'm a student nurse and barely have enough money to eat, never mind pay a fine (i need my car to get to work) do you think they would let me off. what can i do?
please help its my 1st fine after 17 years of driving

  • Is this a section of road you use regularly or were you in foreign territory ?
You scullion! You rampallian! You fustilarian! I’ll tickle your catastrophe (Henry IV part 2)
  • I'm waiting to see if a notice drops on my doorstep. I drove past one of those mobile speed camera vans doing close to 40 in a 30 2 weeks ago - ooops.

Best thing is, a car coming the other way flashed his lights as a warning, and I just assumed he was signalling to his mate somewhere -D'OH!!!!!

How visible is the 30mph sign?

Is it actually possible, if you are doing 60 in the 60 zone to actually slow down safely after seeing the 30mph sign?
