Cambelt Change Con!

Just had my cambelt changed water pump only £30 so new one fitted0

Perhaps a little over cautious ? tensioner Probably and pulleys if the bearings seem worn. But I would refer to the service manual.
My Kia says belt and tensioner at 60,000. Pulleys were fine.... Water Pump.....I think not
Ignore this advice unless you want to risk engine damage
A few quid extra it costs to change the lot while stripped you would be foolish to leave them.
Forget service manual vauxhall never used to say change pump and rollers but look at the problems they had,the bearing in rollers was hunky dory but the injection moulded plastic failed instead causing about a grand to fix on average.
The water pumps tend to fail if not changed because the extra tension of a new belt knackers the bearings.0 -
I was surprised and happy to find that my Corsa had no cambelt, chain driven :T0

At least (1) this generally doesn't happen until at least 150K, and (2) you get lots of warning before something goes pop.
The idea though that you don't replace a £25 part when spending £200 on a service item seems ridiculous to me. If any garage weren't proposing to do it I'd be asking serious questions.
That VW dealer wants to be ashamed of itself.0 -
That would have been embarrassing for sure, turning up and accusing the mechanic of dishonesty, then pointing to the unchanged drivebelt as evidence!
My thoughts are that normally the drivebelt would have been replaced along with the cambelt, as its showing its age with the cracks and he has to take the drivebelt off to get at the cambelt anyway. The fact this wasn't done could indicate the work wasn't done, but its more likely that as this was a special offer, £125 for a cambelt change (and a cambelt change only), no extras included, so no new drivebelt, and probably no cambelt kit either, probably just the bare minimum; belt changed.

Sorry, don't understand.
Don't know which corsa it was, but some of them suffer cam shaft failure as the carriers weren't torqued down correctly at the factory.
Over the years they loosen, and the cam starts to rattle about, eventually snapping.
There was athread on here about it recently, but
http://www.vauxhallownersnetwork.co.uk/showthread.php?179513-Corsa-Camshaft-Failure-Snapped-in-two!
has info.
Recall on some of them, basically just checking the torque on the camshaft carriers.0
