Cambelt Change Con!
Morning all
My gf just bought a used clio from a dealer. At the sale they offered to change the cambelt at their associated garage for trade price. When we got the car home I had a good look at the cambelt, it had a few cracks on the smooth side so I thought I'd play it safe and take them up on their offer.
I picked the car back up from them yesterday £125 lighter. When I was there they said they forgot to pick the receipt up and that I cud pop round next week for it. I paid by card and got that receipt. When I got home I had a quick look under the bonnet....to my shocking belt had the sane cracks on it, it wasn't clean and looks generally worn, I'm 99.9% sure the same belt is still on! I then looked under the bonnet of my own car, it had a new cambelt in the summer, the belt looked brand new in
comparison, shiny and black!
Now I haven't had chance for any action yet but I plan on going overthrere today, showing them the old belt and demanding my £125 back! I just wanted to check on here what exactly my rights are, do they have to issue a refund? I dint want them touching the car again so the refund is the only option for me!
Thanks
Ben

Was it a credit card?
Contact your provider to get your money back (I think).0 -
take photos and maybe take to another garage for them to confirm the belt is old.0

The way I see it your rights are if job not done thennyou should get money back,i would also contact trading standards.
New belts do not come with cracks, get it changed ASAP and keep hold of old belt just incase you want to take further.0 -
Not questioning your technical knowledge, but are you sure you're looking at the cambelt and not an auxiliary one nearby? My PV system: South West England, 10x 250Wp Trina Solar panels, Fronius Inverter, South facing roof, 35° pitch with no shading.0

Morning Ben1030. Depending on what car you have, it is extremely unlikely that you'll be able to see the cam belt with out some fairly time consuming removing of covers and engine parts.
What car is it?0 -

I don't know the clio engine, but it'll be under a plastic cover on the side of the engine. There may be a small amount visible through a gap somewhere, or from underneath, but usually you can't see them clearly.
If you can see it clearly, it's the alternator belt. If you can see two belts, post back up.0 -
I'm guessing you have been looking at the fan belt...?0

If I have is there a way to see the cambelt, I still don't have a receipt yet, and I still wouldn't trust em!0
