Sunnyone, this is MY thread you have highjacked and been so hostile throughout. My son started on meds for his adhd and the change is amazing. Although still impulsive, he has completely changed so if I were you I would go and see a different consultant. Mine actually did what he said he was going to do. Your's obviously let you down and you are very bitter and twisted.
Now if we can continue this thread without your constant butting in then we will all be happier!0 -

Its not your thread, this is a forum and after the opening post anyone can respond and I will post how and when I want to, Im not hostile but the ignorance and the closed minds shown by some people on this thread is amazing and they claim to be such experts on ADHD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Im so pleased that you wont have to claim DLA for your son now since hes completly changed, now that is great news and this thread has run it course since thats why you started it, to get your child a benefit.
Why won earth would I want to see another consultant?
My child is cured and lives a normal life without mind bending drugs thank you and they were the worst the consutants (four of them)had ever seen before, and the consultant didnt fix them, I did by research, trail and error and sheer bloody hard work.
Normal or addicted to mind altering drugs wasnt a hard choice, Dexamphetamine is the same drug that drug abusers take yet my child was given a prescription for that and other just as bad drugs, the drugs left them behaving better, yes but with no quality of life and they hindered their learning ability so limiting the chances of a normal life later on.0 -

how u can claim to be not hostile beggers belief!!
you cannot cure ADHD. medication obviously didnt suit your child, but that doesnt mean it wont suit another.
I am not for or against medication, every case is different. I have an open mind, unlike yours.0 -

My mind isnt a locked box, yours is judging from your posts and if mine had been my child wouldnt be well and living a normal life, I worked hard and made that happen and its annoying that others claim it cant be done while spouting the usual ADHD bye line (the one also used to claim DLA but at least the opening poster wont be doing that now here child is so much better) and then you drag out the "naughty child" insult that was used to us when our child was very small :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:0 -
My son will be 6 in July. He was diagnosed with ADHD, Cognitive learning delay and Educational difficulties in January 2011. I applied for DLA and it was unsucessful within 4 weeks of me sending it off. I am now in the process of having a consideration process and would be grateful if any one has any advice to help me. I am also in the process of getting my son statemented, the LEA have agreed to this and are now in the process of getting assessed by numerous specialist to find out what his needs are. When the DLA contacted me to say that my son's application had been unsucessful, they said they went by a medical report that had requested from one of the named people in my application. I have requested to see this report several times and I an still waiting to recieve it. I have been in contact with everyone that I put on the application and they have said that they were not requested to do a report on my son. I am baffled where they have got the report.:rotfl:0

Have you asked the school? Schools are famous for writing nonsense reports for DLA with one poster on this forum reporting that her childs school neglected to mention that her child was tube fed.0 -
that was my son. school were appalling, i think they thought it was like his school report where they find the positives.
my son gets dla due to the tube and the whole medical shabang that goes with it but he has adhd and with medication is a different child. he was impulsive and hyper but couldnt see reason, didnt see danger or respond to it, it was life in fast forward all the time. within months of getting medication he can work and play and think before acting, he learnt to swim, he is doing fantastic at school. you can see if work in front of your eyes, it isnt a doped up quiet child he is jack and im greatful for that.
there will always be someone who says adhd isnt real, its just a naughty kid or you must feed them junk food. id love to feed jack junk food but he wouldnt eat it and has been on a medically complete feed for the last 8 yrs.0 -
Do you think it magically disappears on their 16th birthday??
Its highly offensive for you to tell the other poster that what they say is rubbish!!!
People do not grow out of ADHD, they may develop enough coping skills etc into adulthood which would perhaps render them safe to drive. But many young people with ADHD would be totally unsafe to drive. and YOU DO have to declare a diagnosis of ADHD to the DVLA.
There have been numerous studies done on ADHD and driving.
You should consider your responses before telling someone they are talking rubbish, when they clearly are not!!
ADHD is far more than naughty children, if you had lived with it you would know that.
Don't be so nasty to sunnyone, she has always been helpful on this forum site. Hmmm don't appear to have brain fog this evening, do you, your in fine fettle for a moan.0 -
Whilst the condition for the kids and families that are genuinely affected must be terrible, the amount of people who suddenly discover their kids have one of these illnesses once a friend or someone in the same School has it is more than coincidence. Perhaps the motivator is the financial benefit they see others get? I am not suggesting this in the OP's case,
I know of one such case, where the "child" miraculously recovered once they were no longer able to claim benefit as an adult and drives claiming to be pressured by the mother to act in a certain way as it would get them everything they wanted. It also appears to the outside world that this illness has a disproportionate effect on School children in poorer areas and Schools where the a larger proportion of children come from disadvantaged homes.
Maybe this is why there are so many sceptics, rightly or wrongly a lot of people consider them to be trendy illnesses that unscrupulous parents claim, but their kids carry on a normal life. In my former job, it was the first thing many of the crime families wheeled out when you informed them that their kin had been caught stealing cars, burglary or shop lifting. Again OP and other genuine posters, please do not take this as a slight on you.
On the subject of driving license, you need to declare anything. I have personal experience of arresting someone who was unfit to drive through mental impairment, where the court ordered the DVLA to remove the person’s license indefinitely. It is against the Law to drive whilst unfit, whether that be through drink or drugs or through any mental impairment. Claiming otherwise or having “forgotten” to add it when applying for your sons/daughters life shows that you only have regard for one life! After all, there could be a kid out there who for reasons of ADHD decide to run into the road. A driver with regular reactions might miss them, one that is mentally impaired may not see the danger in what the kid has just done. If my kids were run over by one of these drivers, I would pursue them through hell to make sure they were locked up and highlight their mental impairment and the collusion of their parents in breaking the law, then sue both parties for everything they had.0 -

She is quite capable of nasty posts herself as was the case further back in this thread.
And has even the worst of her posts removed by the moderators in the past."Life is what you make of it, whoever got anywhere without some passion and ambition?0
