I've been with o2 since Jul 2008. Originally paying £12.50.
    VAT at 15% meant I paid £12.23.
VAT now at 20% means I am paying £12.77.
I got a letter today saying I will be paying £14.50! This is MORE than being a new business customer, who would be paying £13.50.
I've just renewed my contract in December 2010 for another 12 months! Can I still leave?

    Yes you can leave.

(The new customer paying £13.50 won't have the same unlimited deal you have!)

If you ask for a MAC, they may offer you a deal to stay. A £2.50/month discount seems the norm.
  • Has anyone tried their retentions team? They seem to be pretty good. I was offered a very good deal to bring my home phone to them. I've had their broadband package for over 18 months.
2019 Wins: Feb: £10 Aldi Voucher, Frankie & Benny's meal for 2; May: Game from Maynards. June: 2x tickets to Foodies Festival July: £100 September: £30; October: £1000, Goldfinch Merch Pack

    Thanks those who post Comps

You've been with them nearly 3 years, has the price gone up in that time - NO !
Has petrol, Council Tax, Kit-e-Kat, etc, etc, gone up in that time - YES.

As has been said several times already, if you don't like their prices buy it elsewhere !

Err the point is that I CAN'T LEAVE without penalty.

Have you tried escalating your case as outlined in post #20?

Or seeing what sweetener they offer as reported on the o2 forum? (Link in post#20)

I have emailed their complaints team now - I got totally nowhere on the phone today and I escalated the call to highest person I could. They would not budge. It is not the price rise I object to really, it is that I am being forced to accept it that I really dislike.

    Don't know why?
BT put up their prices recently and obviously many customers were still within their contract period and those who kicked up a fuss (like me) were offered the few quid monthly rise off for the remainder of the contract. The same should apply here.

It is the price rise that you need to object to.
  • This doesn't sound right to me.

O2 and me signed a contract. The contract's minimum term is 12 months. If I decide to end the contract earlier, I will have to incure a penalty. If O2 decides to end the contract earlier, they can simply walk away - they allowing me to leave earlier without penalty because of their breache of the contract is a goodwill from them? Does that sound logical?

Exactly - as far as i am concerned they have breached the contract i signed up to so they should allow me to leave.

This always happens - new, vibrant entrant to market, fantastic product at a great price, loads of people sign up, they then downgrade their fantastic product to just an OK product but are left with the problem of the existing customers still taking advantage of the original (fantastic!) product which has become less viable. What to do? I know, we'll try and smoke them out by upping the price whilst at the same time offering them incentives to sign up with the inferior product thereby abandoning the fantastic, original product. Voila! Problem solved. Could o2 be viewed as the new talktalk in the coming years?
