Hi
I have just got back from picking DS (2yrs 4mth) up from nursery and am shocked at what i have just seen.
I was putting DS coat on when i heard a slap and cry, there was a little boy standing by a little girl, i put 2 and 2 together and assumed the little boy had slapped her as i've seen him be a bit rough with other children.
So then one of the carers asks the little girl what happend, she's about 1 so couldnt tell her anyway, then another little boy pointed at the first boy and was saying him him he hit.
I started to zip his bag up then heard the carer shout, so much it made me jump, when i looked up she had hold of the little boy by the front of his coat, her knuckles were white she had such a strong grip.
I was just standing there staringat her, then when she looked up she said in a soft voice, no you shouldnt hit.
She'd obviously tried to backtrack.
Anyways, is this standard disipline practice in nurserys?
I am always led to beleive that shouting doesnt work and shouldnt be done.

if i were you id complain
imagine if another parent saw YOUR son being treated in this way ......... !!!
when i was a playgroup leader ( 2.5 yrs - 4 yrs) we had a "time out " chair
other than that it was a lot of "thats not nice,we dont do that" etc and then try and get an apology and a hug for the child
no way would we shout ,its all about the tone of voice not the volume ! lol0 -
I hate children at school being shouted at especially the little ones.
Sometimes the Nursery teacher does shout quite loudly and it makes me cringe. However she does always follow this on with an explaination to why she was angry. They are also placed on a mat for time out.
we had a little boy who bit other children every day, he did get shouted at. However it hasn't stopped his bad behaviour a year on, so no shouting does not work IMO.
I would be more worried about the manhandling of this little boy.0 -
Thas what i was more worried about, the fact she grabbed him by his coat, it makes me wonder how my son is treated when i'm not there!
Coz if i had of seen her do that to my child i'd of knocked her into next week, it angered me to see her treat him like that.
I dont want to leave DS there anymore.:j Baby boy Number 2, arrived 12th April 2009!:j0 -
my friend worked in a nursery and this is a definate definate no no, she's now a nanny and never ever shouts at the little girl she nannies for as a child care professional you are taught other ways of dealing with things, the only time its acceptable to shout if the child is in immediate danger.
i would definatly report it to the nursery manager asap.Other women want a boob job. Honey the only silicone i'm interested in is on a 12 cup muffin tray, preferably shaped like little hearts0 -
That is bang out of order. If it was me 'wandering what to do' - I would deffinately complain. Try talking to the nursery manager, and tell them if she is not 'shouted at in return' - you will seek advise from the educational department and report the incident. They wouldn't want this to be broadcast - bad reputaion etc.
If she has done this to a little child who cant defend themselves - imagine what could happen 'next time' - dont let another child become a victim, after all - it could be your child she might go for next!!!!Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure0 -
omg i would definately complain about that!
its horrid to think your children are being mistreated by people you trustIt only seems kinky the first time.. :A0 -
The nursery should definitely have some sort of procedure for naughty children. Ask to see it, then explain to the manager about what you saw.
This is one such policy.0 -
Thanx guys, i knew i was going to complain, i just wanted some reassurance before i did.
I really dont want to leave spud there now, i dont know what to do.:j Baby boy Number 2, arrived 12th April 2009!:j0 -
ok
phoned the nursery manager, and she has asked me to put it all in writing and assured me this is going to be investigated strs its a serious complaint.
She was quite nice, says she understands it isnt an easy thing for me to do but she is glad i did, and has also assured me this is NOT standard practice an any of the nurseries.
I am really thinking about taking him out now, its playing on my mind, also the fact that the past few days he hasnt wanted to go in and has sobbed when i left him, i cried my eyes out this morning when i left him i dont think i could do that again.:j Baby boy Number 2, arrived 12th April 2009!:j0 -
Well done Astonsmummy, you've done the right thing. With regards to whether to take ds out, I would follow your gut instinct .0
