Virgin Media instalation - how to get it done???
Comments
-
to be honest i wouldnt spit on virgin if they were on fire,
we had a salesman promis us that we would get free installation. we didnt and for some reason our bill went up and up even though we were hardly using the phone. when i called to cancel as we were moving i was told we would get a small refund. low and behold we owe them. and all you seem to get is someone in india that hasnt got a clue. try contacting branson himself but hes probably sunning himself on one of his islands hes brought with our money.0 -
Thank you. That round thing is a small leylandii type bush. I wouldn't cry if it died.
The cabinet (the lid that is in your pic) is just on the road next to it. I need to see if there is a rope in the cabinet in the house (accessible from outside behind a concrete looking door with a special key - where the services come to the house apparently). This cabinet is under the window, that is between the garage and front door (where that small green 'square' is).
There is still some hope that we might get it in the end...
I really need to see that report to find out why is it not possible.
The only thing I can think of is if your neighbors that can have cable service have objected to VM running a ducting across their property. But if the green box is on your property, then it's a simple 4hr install.0 -
Going back in time to before Telewest merged with (took over General Cable). Yorkshire Cable made huge efforts to laise with all the building firms in their franchise areas and get as many new developments as possible cable ready. Sadly when Telewest arrived this policy stopped. I don't know if the merger between Telewest & NTL changed this policy.
Unfortunately this doesn't help the OP.0 -
Can you photograph that? I'm not sure what you mean..

I'll do tomorrow with the light, as I will be working from home. I am not sure if that was true, but that is when previous owner told me (he lived in this house from new - built late 1980s).
Both your suggested routes would be through my ground, not neighbours. I don't understand why they say it would cost £1000+ to get it to the house, unless they are platinum coating everything! It could be that they made a mistake on address and instead of last number 6 someone put 8... (the house in the top of the picture).Spring into Spring 2015 - 0.7/12lb0 -

I've done installs that have taken a couple of day's they were that big! To re-instate a cut across your drive it'd take no more than 3 bags of readymix concrete or tarmac, same stuff you get in the DIY stores.
I'd insist on a Site Survey to be done. Here's the details of the Preston office.

It's the old Telewest details but they should still be the same, ask for the Installation Manager or Contracts Manager.0 -

That's why you should agree all aspects of the work before it starts, sign the job sheet & get a copy. The only way you can get the cable up the garden is to splice it,causes minimal damage & is back to normal within a month or two.0 -
Oh, and have you REALLY tried all you can to get a decent DSL connection? I hate Virgin for the same type of reason as the poster above, and for their policy of witholding accurate information about their service being over-subscribed, taking your time with b.s. on the phone instead of immediately stating "yes, there's a problem in the area, yes it's over-subcribed, and yes we will give you your money back without having to go to the small claims court." I'm currently preparing a small claims court claim, dishonesty really gets my goat, let alone (criminally) selling something you cannot provide (I referred them to Trading Standards, it's exactly the rogue kind of company that statutory laws and Trading Standards are made to fight against).
So, avoid VM at all costs, or at least check all serious forums for feedback and over-capacity issues in your specific area. Then check for a good quality speed and reliability of connection, AND get the cheapest deal you can. You get what you pay for then, well, if you're lucky.
Good luck, anyway.0 -
Look, DSL is not an option - we are so far from exchange, it doesn't matter who the supplier is. I know of all the bad reviews about Virgin, but it is either I stay at sub 0.5 Mb connection, or I take my chances and go for Virgin.
Ok, here we go, new plan:
Swept T on my drive (is that how it is called - I am sorry, don't know these terms)Spring into Spring 2015 - 0.7/12lb0 -
The 'door' on the house:Spring into Spring 2015 - 0.7/12lb0
