Piston broke HC?

I've seen a melted piston in a coach engine which the driver had driven into the ground.

The piston and block was welded together and the only option was a new short engine.

this actually occured from a valve guide fracturing and getting sucked into a bore then getting puffed back out into the inlet and then sprayed into the other bores. there was metal all over the place in the airbox in the manifold. i have harder bronze ones now i dont think they liked the rpm and heat


beauty of old vauxhalls - the pistons were out and head back in a day

started a 7am in morning and finsihed at about 8pm due to other bits and peice replacing bearings oil seals cam seals etc most of the time was wasted hunting for the ring compresor

then fired it up late sunday night after sump sealant had dried its meant to be 24 hours but i couldnt wait

not sure what a garage would charge for that

If it was the 1.7 then game over, it was a hybrid Ford/Yamaha engine with Nikasil coated bores. Some racers say you can do all sorts to it, but realistically if it goes bang, you replace it with a 1.6. That said, I've never had a 1.6 Puma through my hands even though they were in production for 4 or 5 years, so guessing they were just normal Zetecs.
