I don't understand, even if the garage have got the head off, how can you see the piston ring, they don't normally melt, they snap and break up..
You're going to have to drop the the sump and see can you can see any bits of metal in it.
How do you know if a piston ring has gone on a Ford Puma? - FixYa

Dead simples a piston ring could melt! However for it to do so it would have to reach a temperature where your pistons would simple be a pile of molten aluminium in your sump.

You keep asking if a melted piston ring can be fixed. Simple answer "NO" if your engine has been that hot to melt a piston ring it is "FOOKED"

    New engine time!

Anything can be replaced. But in this case its probably not cost effective.

Why ask about anything on a forum, when the garage has stripped the engine down and told you what they think, why not just listen to those that have seen the engine and the damage caused to it.

Problem is from my reading of the thread that the garage have removed the head and the melted piston can be seen, but the same garage are for some reason unable to repair it...i would question the competence of a garage that can't remove a piston, unless said piston has seized solid, in which case the engine is scrap.

Engine from breaker is the only answer anyway.

One thing, I thoght the only two engines you could get in a Puma were the 1.4, rare and the 1.7, nippy.

However I have paid little attention to the Puma and they may have brought out a 1.6 later in the production run, personally never seen the point of them, though if they had been around when I was in my teens early twenties they would have fitted the bill nicely.

I thought the engine was a 2000W electric unit made by Babyliss :rotfl:
