Fix melted piston ring

I have melted a piston ring in my ford puma 1600 y reg is this fixable?

    I am mate just thought with melted piston might not run right and my garage say they cant fix it! Seems odd.

  • Pull the head off, skim and rebore, add new pistons, job done.

    Garage reckons can't do that on the 1600 zetec. Cant get to bottom end or something? Can it be done? Thanks

    Of course it can be done if you find someone that knows what they are doing.

    What can I say I suppose it is easy, assuming you know what a cylinder head is, you could do it yourself. Get a socket set and remove the head, take it to a garage that does rebores.

    Just the melted piston that's the problem? New one etc garage says can't fix or replace!

    I think you will need to find an 'old fashioned garage'.

    I did an apprenticeship in one, where you took engines, gearboxes apart and rebuild them.

    Jings, new shells on a crankshaft, piston rings, grinding in valves, now a days there are no motor mechanics, just fitters, they would rather put a new engine in that fix it.
