My ot has wanted one of these for ages for our Sky system, do I take it they are no good or more commonly called c++p ?

I think they're rubbish. If you want good quality reception you need to run a cable, especially in this era of HDTV.

Just out of curiosity, is your video sender/receiver one from Aldi and if so, how long have you had it and what distance is it covering?

It is a Thomsons video sender from ebay. Had it for about a year. Wprks from livingroom to upstairs and to other rooms downstairs.

They work well if not placed too far appart. The only problem I have is the microwave spoils signal and so does next doors ! For what they are at this price hey are a good buy, but don't expect them to send a signal too far especially if on different floors in a large house.
  • You really can not lose on these Aldi deals, take it home and test it, if you ain't happy get your dosh back. Can't understand some sour puss posters.
Well if somebody has found them not to be very good and ended up taking them back, I for one appreciate them telling me about their experiences. Not everybody is lucky enough to have an Aldi on their doorstep, it can invlolve some effort making a special journey to be there in time to buy one, and I don't want to have unrealistic expectations (or give my wife/kids unrealistic expectations) of how brilliant the product is, if it isn't! :)
Thanks to all who post constructively.

Not all video senders are created equal - perhaps the Thomsons are the better buy?

Anyone else had a play with the Thomsons?

I certainly agree - taking things back can be such a drag! :rolleyes2

  • Does anyone know if these work with NTL
  • I probably have misunderstood, mainly because my understanding was that most of the electrical offers that Lidl and Aldi make year after year usually involve the same item, same manufacturer, same model no etc.

However it is perfectly feasible that it is a different product this year, and unfortunately I have no way of telling :)

Got one of the Portable DVD players this morning ..... model is DVP7018. Unfortunately, it doesn't appear to play DIVX.

Also got one of the sender units, but I've not tried that yet.

Had a look at the spec in Aldi and decided to go for another of these video senders.

Definitely different from the one I bought 2 years ago and, having had a play, far superior as well! Lots more in the way of set-up options eg 2 source inputs, cabling options, etc.

Picture quality and stability vastly improved (incorporates PLL ie phase-locked loop), can't fault it at this stage of the game.

For £19.99 and 3 year warranty, I don't think you can really lose!

Agree with Nix about the Video Sender. I've got it transmitting my cable TV signal to my TV in kitchen and it works great for me - apart from slight interference when I turn on the microwave oven, but I can live with that.

Just wish the portable DVD player played DIVX files! Only reason I bought it was because someone else suggested it might.
