Meeting someone the O/S way!

I am a 28 year old single woman. My sister set me up with a man she worked with a month ago and I have been seeing him for that time. I finished with him this morning after a somewhat disasterous Saturday with him.

My question is: where do you go to meet people now??? I have been single for about 3 years and fed up. The pubs and clubs etc are all cattle markets. I have tried internet dating with again disasterous consequences!

I have started a dance class but there is no eligable batchelors there. I also did a college course last year to try and meet new poeple but nothing I do works!

Does anyone have any suggestions? I don't want to still be in this situation when I am 30!

Thank you........
Lydia

I met my girlfriend (of nearly 4 years now) in another message board - Was the board of a band we both liked, started talking to each other on MSN and about 6 months later we were an item.

Since then we've got to university together and been living together for the past 18 months.

What internet dating sites have you used? I think most of the agencies are a bad idea but you'd be able to find someone on gumtree or similar.

MSN is good, because you can get to know someone before actually meeting them, there's no pressure to put on an act or get dressed up.

And don't put pressure on yourself to find someone by the time you're 30, there's no rush!

I met my (now) husband up a volcano in the Andes:eek:...we were both climbing it for the same chairty! Seriously though, charity events seem to be THE place to meet men at the mo, I know about 5 couples who met this way. Most of them didn't have to train for 6 months, go as far as South America & get altitude sickness to acheive it....that was just us:rolleyes::D Maybe get involved in a chairty cycle ride/swim/tin shaking day etc. Although I must say I don't think you ever meet anyone when you are actively looking, it's always by accident when you haven't washed your hair! (or when you haven't washed anything for a week in my case:eek::o:rotfl:)

    Hi silverfoxdude,

I have removed your email address from your post as unfortunately spammers can and do collect addresses from forums like MSE.

If LydiaSophia wants to contact you she can still do it by pm. :)

  • I was thinking of doing the Great Wall of China trek for Cancer Research but I wouldn't have a clue how to raise 3k for it.

I am also trying to become an active member of Greenpeace but they seem to have so many people trying to become members I never hear anything from them.

Thank you for the ideas - just fed up of being lonely...........

    Hi LydiaSophia,

You should get more help with this on the Marriage Relationships and Families board as there are quite a few threads there on meeting people so I'll move your thread over there.

Here are a couple of threads I've seen that might help:

Great Cheap Internet Dating Site Hunt

    finding friends

    Good Luck!:)

  • I know several people who have met through the Guardian Guide 'Soulmates' section. If I was single, I wouldn't think twice about doing something like that.

But sometimes things have a way of just happening without you doing a thing. I met DH in what is now our house after visiting a friend who was his lodger at the time.
May all your dots fall silently to the ground.

I'm actually quite keen to hear what happened?

Don't want to really say - feels really mean. Lets just say that I found out he had no personal hygiene and had food on his kitchen floor that looked like it was growing new food of it's own - yuk yuk yuk! You never know what you will find lurking behind someones front door!
