Got my vouchers on Saturday and spend the first one on some yummy food in Waitrose... a real treat.

I received my vouchers yesterday - is it best to wait until 1st Feb to withdraw the money & close the account?

I'm assuming I can close the account via Internet banking secure message.

    Thanks.

I do hope my voucher turns up soon - opening this account has been a bit of a nightmare, not a good advert for HSBC!

Applied online and got sent the request for ID etc through the post, which I duly returned with the requested ID (bank statement and bill).

A couple of weeks later I got a letter saying that they hadn't received anything and assumed I didn't want to go ahead so would reject my application if they didn't hear from me.

The next day I phoned the number that they gave me in the letter, explained the situation and was told I had rung the wrong number. I was then transferred to their internet banking team, who also told me they couldn't help. The lady there did phone their new account team (who I wasn't allowed to talk to - they only take internal calls) and passed on that they had no record of receiving anything so I would have to resend it - however they now said I would have to send in my passport and driving licence! I pointed out this wasn't what they had previously asked for, and that I wasn't going to be sending such important documents through the post. She was adamant that the least I could send in was certified copies of passport and licence. In all I was on the phone for 40 minutes, and not any further!

Arrived home from work the same day to find a letter from HSBC waiting for me, returning my documents and welcoming me to my new account!

To top it all, the other day I got a letter saying that as they hadn't received my ID, they would be closing my account in 14 days unless I go into a branch with the documents!

If you do, please let me know how it's done and how you specify where to send the funds to - I'll need to close mine soon as well.

    cheers!

Yes, just withdraw the money on the 1st February (I simply ask for it to be transferred online to another HSBC account) and then send them a secure message asking them to close the empty Online Saver account..

You're not alone - I haven't received mine yet either.

Just to update - my vouchers arrived today..

  • got mine today as well.

Just a word of caution regarding closing the account on 1 Feb.
On their last offer (£20 M&S), I closed my account on 1st of the month by sending a secure message, and it was closed with interest deducted from my current account the following day!

It took them 5 working days to investigate and refund the interest to my current account.

It might have been just a one-off error, but I'll hold off transferring the money out until 2nd Feb.
  • I still haven't received my vouchers and have been chasing them via the secure message system. Initially HSBC told me to wait until the 31st Jan had passed and if they hadn't turned up then to recontact them. I did this but I'm now not getting answers to my messages.

Anyone had any problems with getting the vouchers?

    Thanks

    In a word, yes.

I've chased them using all the methods I can think of and now they're saying they didn't receive my application until 20th November. That's as may be, but I applied on the 19th.

My money's coming out of there on 1st March!
