Evans Halshaw £98 HPI Checks

I'd speak to HPI/the finance company shown and ask them what the deal is. Perhaps Evans Halshaw never cleared the previous owner's finance!
5t.What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?0 -
Be careful of dealing with Evans Halshaw, nearly every used car on sell is on finance (I've checked twice and both these two cars has an outstanding finance warning on hpi report), how silly could a car dealer selling a car with uncleared hpi history to customers like that!0

Well, my last two cars have been from EH (different branches) and I didn't get asked to pay any HPI check.
And got good customer service both times.0 -
I am laughing to pieces here. If a car dealer ever tried to sell this to me I think I would get so angry I would probably get locked up for public disorder! I am an IT technican and I might start charging £100 for a virus check everytime I have done a virus removal job

I paid a deposit on a car with Evans Halshaw last week, and was told the fee was compulsory. At the time I had no idea what they cost, but I've since looked online and seen that they're only about £10-20.
The original advert for the car on their website lists 'Experian Providence Check' along with the car's features, implying this is included in the asking price (although two of the other features it mentioned were not on the car)...
I'll speak to them about it, but does anyone know if I would have any legal grounds for refusing to pay this fee now I've paid a deposit?
Thanks.
If the price does not match that which was agreed, then yes.
Do not believe the dealer if they say the deposit is not refundable; it is. They can only retain any provable losses. If, for example, they have registered the car in your name, or they have fitted any accessories etc.The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0 -
Aye defo, ask them why they're charging 4x the cost of going direct to the HPI company themselves who no doubt make a large profit from it too... See the salesman squirm a bit

When I used to value cars as a claims handler it used to cost us a few pounds to get the all the info
As a motor trader they'll be paying £2.50 per check...0 -
Evans Halshaw £98 HPI Checks
This company claims that its compulsory that you have to if your purchasing a car that they do a HPI Check at the cost of £98 where as in fact its not compulsory even traiding standards state this, they are charging this when the AA charge £15-50 and you can even do the same check on your mobile for around £20
also they pay around £1-20 for the check
Don't take my word for it please see this site many people same complaint
just so you know we refused to pay and didn't so either say i'm not paying or walk away.0 -

These lot and the rest of them, remind of RyanUnfar with their hidden charges. The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0 -
Just bought a car from them and was also told I must pay £98. I refused to pay it and walked away from the deal. Over the next week I had four phone calls trying to sell me the car, each time me saying I would only buy the car if the £98 was not charged. Eventually they knocked it off and tried to make out they were doing me a favour!0
