this is the 1st i've heard of it, it's now going to be a bit of a struggle :(
TBH it sounds from your statement that you planned the child on the basis of receiving that grant
  • I'm due in July so I won't get the grant either but as I had my last child over 12 years ago I don't have anything baby related so i'm going to apply for a comunity care grant instead.

I've got nothing to lose & they can only say no.

i can assure you i didnt get pregnant for the benefits, that grant would obviously come in handy but i'll manage without it, your presumption is wrong!

lol, yeah cos one really would plan a child based on gettinga £500 grant, or whatever it is now. Most rididulous statement i've read in a long while...

If you are due on or after the 11th of April you will not get the grant. It doesn't matter if your child is born earlier than the cut off date. As she is on her 4th child, she will get the usual benefits I am imagining that she already claims. Child Benefit and Child Tax Credits.

So why are women having children they obviously can't even provide the basics for without money from the taxpayer? For women already on benefits the HIP and Sure Start grant plus extra benefits after the birth was a lot of money.

I agree, seen plenty of posts recently re it being unfair and how will they buy things. The thought of actually planning financially for a child seems to have gone out of the window nowadays.

As for applying for a community care grant, words fail me.

Completely agree. Whatever happened to people saving up to buy things. You have 9 months to provide your baby with the things it will require and with websites like ebay and gumtree it doesn't cost anywhere near £500 for the essentials. The funny thing is that the majority of people that I know that are complaining are raking in more than I earn working full time on their benefits.
