Sure Start Maternity Grant

Hi all,

Can anyone tell me if I am understanding the change right. Direct.gov states:

"The rules for Sure Start Maternity Grant have changed for babies that are:
due on or after 11 April 2011
born on or after 11 April 2011
adopted or in similar arrangements on or after 11 April 2011

You can only get a Sure Start Maternity Grant if there are no other children under 16 years in your family.

You can only get a Sure Start Maternity Grant if your dependant is under 20 years and has no other children."

Does this mean I can claim for my child born Nov 2010 when I have another child under 16?

Me and the OH are reading the above differently.

Thanks in advance
:heartpuls baby no3 due 16th November :heartpuls

Here's a nice article which should help ...
However, if the baby is due before 11 April, parents can still apply for the grant, even if they have other children.

yep thats right, I am applying for my son born 3 weeks ago and I have another child under 16. I rang the job centre to clarify and they confirmed you can still apply as long as you are within the 3 month cut off and you qualify.
