My friend is due end of May and has other children, my understanding of this is that she isnt entitled to the grant however she is confused as she will be over 29 weeks before April 11th. So is she entitled or not? Please help!!!
No she is not entitled as baby is due after April the 11th. Also wanted to say tigtag you need to get your form in sharpish as you can only claim within 3 months of your child's birth and they must have recieved the form by that time. x0 -

Thanks - I sent it today. I hope 12 days isn't cutting it too fine :eek::heartpuls baby no3 due 16th November :heartpulsTEAM YELLOWDFD 16/6/10"Shut your gob! Or I'll come round your houses and stamp on all your toys" The ONE, the ONLY, the LEGENDARY Gene Hunt :heart2:0 -
So being due the at the start of June means I will not get a payment then?
Under current guidelines are you not suppose to buy things like car seats, cots etc from new?
I dont have anything left over from my 3 year old as I gave it all to charity shops etc to help out others and even if I did I dont suppose dreassing a girl in boys things would be very practical :rotfl:0 -

I think you are now meant to buy your baby stuff with your own and the father's money rather than the taxpayer forking out.
Look in the charity shops, some other mother might have given her unwanted items.0 -

OMG - are you still knocking around these parts bashing everyone who dare be entitled to a benefit?
I think after all these years you should maybe find a more constructive way to spend your retirement

And I gave you a simple informative answer. Nothing rude about it, just not what you wanted to hear.0 -
I am due my 1st child on 11th April and my partner is claiming income based JSA and I work full time (he only moved in with me 2 weeks ago, informed the JC and as he won't qualify for conts stuck with income based as we thought we would qualify for the grant)
We applied for the Sure Start grant as the eligibility criteria suggested we would qualify;
Who can get a Sure Start Maternity Grant?
You can get a Sure Start Maternity Grant if you or your partner, receive any of the following on the date you claim:
income-based Jobseeker's Allowance
and if one of the following applies to you on the date you claim:you or your partner are pregnant and expecting a baby within 11 weeks or have given birth within the last three months
However we were rejected as the JSA was not a joint claim. Is this correct? It does not state it should be a joint claim so was a little baffled but fair enough if this is the case and we do not meet the criteria.
