Can a guest wear Black?

Options
Hi, I can normally be found lurking on the DFW board but needed some guidance
I have two non-church weddings to attend this year (April & July), as I am trying to clear debt I want the one dress for both, have found a stunning dress but its black - was thinking of accessorising with hot pink shoes/bag fascinator

Would this be frowned upon - first wedding is OHs brother and second is a close friend where I have to do a reading
This style would be perfect for my top heavy shape

Any feedback appreciated
Thanks

I think that would be lovely!!!

In fact, a friend of mine wore a very similar dress to our friends wedding in December. She did a reading too. She wore black tights and shoes, and a hot pink jacket.

No-one commented it was out of place or anything!

This may help you decide. That dress is very expensive to my mind if you are trying to clear debt!

Personally it doesn't look like a dress to wear to a wedding, I just don't think black is suitable at all.

I personally dont like black for weddings but of course its up to each individual. We all have different tastes so who is to say whats right or wrong. Wear what feels right to you.
Some people even have black bridesmaid dresses. Personally I think thats a step too far, too morbid looking for a wedding but if we all liked the same it would be a boring world. :)

Personally, I wouldnt mind if someone wore black to my wedding and I really like that dress.

But, I would never spend that much on a dress!! EEK! I hate spending more than £40 on a dress haha

    Hi
Yes it is more than I would normally spend but the plan is to get two weddings out of it. The style is quite classic so wouldnt date as much as other dresses + I already have accessories so would save there

That is still an awful lot of money. Are you really saying that it is normal to get a new dress for a wedding? I tend to wear something I have, if I buy something new it would be a lot less than that and be worn for a lot more than twice!

In that thread quite a lot of the replies do support wearing black. If you're teaming it up with colour I think it'll be lovely. And I seem to recall only a couple of weeks ago our future queen wore very plain black as a wedding guest :)

I think it's normal to buy a new dress for a wedding - it's what I always do anyway. I don't think it's ridiculously expensive, especially as it will cover 2 weddings. I normally buy a dress I like and then sell it on ebay after to recoup some of the cost.

I have never heard of it being inappropriate to wear black to a wedding, I just know you shouldn't wear a white dress.
  • I havent been to a wedding since I was a bridemaid for my sister 7 years ago so have nothing suitable
I dont buy new clothes as have been stucking to a very tight budget luckily work is casual so clothes double up.
Of course it would be worn more than twice and if not ebayed (might look on there now and see if there are any on there), but I was given a voucher for debenhams for xmas (£30) and using the daily mail voucher code mentioned on here thats a further 20% off.

Also 4% Quidco (if you use cashback sites).

Should get it down to about £92.
