The only thing I can see that's missing is you paying income tax on your earnings.

Anyway, by smeagold's own admission he makes so little from his trading / gambling / whatever that he would barely need to pay tax anyway.

I really want to buy land, alot of it and wasn't really that bothered about buying a house at all. just see what happens, suppose.

What do you think of the Gov selling off all the forests in the UK? Will this have a very big impact on land prices?

They aren't proposing to sell off Wales' forests or Scotland's for a start, but forests are entirely different from agricultural land anyway, so I'd expect the effect to be minimal.
  • So land in Wales and Scotland will not fall as much?

have you seen WHAT you can get at £500?
have you seen WHAT you can get at £220-250?
Once you seen those houses your doubts may be solved.
Why not get the job in Devon/XCornwall first and then move alltogether?
What will happen in 2 years time when the child going to reception class? You said you are not worried if your wife will wait for a position for 5 years, what are you going to do when your child is 6 ? send her to 2 schools?
The word "dilemma" comes from Greek where "di" means two and "lemma" means premise. Refers usually to difficult choice between two undesirable options.
Often people seem to use this word mistakenly where "quandary" would fit better.

in all honesty smeagold do you not think it irresponsibly telling people how easy it is making a living from trading? 1 to 2 grand a month isn't that impressive. there must be people that read your posts and think trading is easy and spend 6 months trading and losing money? i bet some people are even tempted to quit their jobs so they can trade full time.

If anyone wants a shotgun I would recommend a berretta xtrema. i have a supermagnum version J
  • House prices look to be falling for a while yet.

    http://www.moneyweek.com/investments/property/uk/uk-house-prices-have-further-to-fall-10407.aspx

Tell your wife to be patient and you will see much cheaper property next year and the year after.

Here is another idea for you Smeagold.

With the forests all flooding the land market, prices for land will be falling even more next year.

Buy a couple of acres in an area you like. Maybe less than 10K per acre, so you do not have to sell much silver yet.

Then apply to build an eco house on there. Before you say its too hard to get planning permission have a read about Policy 52.

That policy 52 is only in Wales as far as I can see.

Is there something similar in England?

It is easier to get permission for an eco home it should get even easier too.

I would love to have a goat for milk and chickens for eggs, and a bee hive. Your smallholding could be called a land flowing with milk and honey.

Have you heard of building a house out of straw hay bales? Its very cheap and easy to build and excellent insulation.

Be great to have sola panels as the roof and rain water harvesting tank and filters.

Money doesnt grow on trees but water does fall from the sky for free, so why do we pay so much for it?

It does strike me as interesting that you whine about BTL being competition for other buyers but don't see that by occupying two properties you would be having a similar but greater effect.
