speaking of which its almost time for gold silver and oil trading to begin on the asian markets which is why I'm waiting up. just cos I want to. No-one tells me what to do. I do it cos I enjoy it. I'm interested in which way oil will move post the egypt crisis at the initial trading session. No so bothered about gold and silver they will head up, oils slightely more volatile tho.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. .... best to plan for all eventualities imo. if your really worried, buy a shotgun;)
I'd be less worried if my neighbours hadn't bought them first!
One of my immediate neighbours is a licenced marksman.
IMO it's not a personal supply of fresh veg, fruit & beasts that will keep people going in a crisis, but a stash of tinned goods & dried food. Anyone can have that.

Forget Devon/Cornwall - move to Aberdeen : they're in desperate need of psychologists there.

I'm glad someone else posted this - £1-£2k a month trading all day long? It hardly seems worth the effort.
Jeez, smeagold . .the image I had of you (and one you so carefully cultivated with your youtube posting of your vast reserves of metal) are completely shattered.
And pay your damn taxes man. How on earth can you not know that when gambling gains constitute your main income, it's not taxable?
Incidentally, I didn't realise trading metals was gambling. I thought it was a sure thing?0 -
spread betting is only taxable if its your main income. Its not my main income but I won't explain how I get around that.
We'd do just fine on the mrs's income I don't even need to trade. but I might as well. I can walk away from this computer anytime I want and seeing as its winter there's not much to do. When spring comes I'll be out and about all day but I can still trade and make just as much with 20 mins in the morn and an hour in the eve.
Anyway this is off topic I just wanted to know if anyone thought our 'plan' had any unforseen flaws. which it doesn't seem to. Thanks allHi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -

I was working at CW which is a pig of a commute from here so lived in the DW's (at that time DG's) house in New Cross in the week and spent weekends at mine about 1 hour drive away from Fri night to Sun night. I found it exhausting and didn't really feel 'at home' at either place. Yes New Cross is not that pleasant but you are talkign of looking for fairly cheap rent in Bridgwater so presumably are not looking to be in the best neighbourhood?
Are you sure your DW would really like the lifestyle - you are putting yourself somewhere very remote if you end up on your own, if you ar e remote enough even the hoped for 'local' job may and up a long and gruelling commute away. Similarly your kid - even with home schooling you need to get involved in a lot of activities with other children to satisfy the local authority requirements.
Re the trading 'profits' - are you beating the market indices given the level of gearing and risk you are running. The Wilsons 'made' a fortune by gearing themselves up on a rising market but doesn't mean they were actually making a real profit...I think....0 -
Dont underestimate the amount of work and the cost of growing your own food and the amount of land you will require in order to grow a range of crops over a full growing season, especially if you want to come anywhere close to self-sufficiency. You will also need a decent storage area for all the food you lay down for the winter, with a cool cellar being at the top of the list. If possible get land with access to water - even a small vegetable plot needs a lot of water.
Good luck though, your pretty much doing what we did last year when we bought a farmhouse with land and we have never been happier.
