Er, that would depend on the size of your monitor...

Even if you measure them, on my monitor they come out with 2.75'' ( 19'' monitor BTW)

I checked that against my hands and I have particularly small hands , and the shaft of the knife would barely fit into my palm, therefore I would presume they are bigger than that size

Good job I don't work in PR then really.

Isn't it your job to present a professional image of the force, on or off duty?

On the contrary, whilst his facts are correct he is responding in a rude and arrogant manner.

For some value of 'rude and arrogant'.

As far as I can see he is responding in a concise and accurate fashion to certain people who are either ignorant of the law or deliberately trying to be silly.

I would presume that the picture you showed above is not to scale.

I have no idea what scale it is, I imagine this would depend on the size of your screen.

If you measure the length of the blade and the length of the shaft, the bottom one especially is approx 2.75''. Therefore if it was to scale, that would make the blade over 3'' therefore illegal as you state.

One knife has a blade of 2.25inches, the other is 2.50 inches. Therefore they are both legal. And remember the law says "with a cutting edge"

My problem I have with you is that you have not admitted that you are perhaps in the wrong with carrying a knife. With a responsible position that you are in, you should be making an example. If they are divers knives which has been suggested, then why are they not kept with your dive gear. You have no reason to be carrying them around in public, especially entering a museum.

They are not divers knives and I have not admitted I am wrong simply because I am not, I am following the law to the letter. I have every reason to own and carry them.

I feel that if you saw someone out whilst on duty carrying exactly the same knives as you, you would ask them why. If they just come out with what you would have said '' I need them to cut things'' I am pretty sure that you wouldn't accept that argument. Therefore why is there one rule for you, and another for everyone else?

Can you not read, you asked me earlier in this thread what I would do if I found someone with the same knives (highly unlikely as one was custom made just for me) and I informed you what I would do. You seem to just wish to engage in an argument?

I cannot accept that you , because you are in the force, will not be prone to some kind of mental trauma and you have a weapon right by your side extrmem I know, and I am not having a pop at you, but it has happened in the past, Why put yourself in that position?. If you say you are normal level headed, then that is the same argument that Derek Bird could have used, after he shot everyone in Cumbria, as he had passed all the police checks for legally having shotguns in his possesion

What on earth are you blathering on about? Why would I have mental health issues? I own several firearms, I keep my police issue kit at home and sometimes carry it around off duty because of my role if I was wanting to go on some kind of rampage I would be better off using that than a couple of small knives. Thankfully I have no desire to go on a rampage.

You seem to have no idea what you are talking about. My knives are not weapons, they are simply tools that I use daily.

  • The reality is that most security checkpoints are a complete farce - museum, airport or nightclub. There are normally plenty of ways to circumvent them. 90% of their function is public consumption, making people feel more reassured.

Firstly I had them so I could cut things, secondly it is not illegal. Please learn the relevant laws.

I would reccomend that you actually read posts before commenting.

Please see post #3 in this thread and the excuse he gave.

Do You carry a knife with you? Is that why he is correct in his actions?

Nope, when I am off duty I am in my own time. On duty I am great.

I do not know how I can be any more blunt about this, the reason I am correct in my actions is section 139 of the Criminal Justice Act 1988 which states
    (1) Subject to subsections (4) and (5) below, any person who has an article to which this section applies with him in a public place shall be guilty of an offence.

    (2) Subject to subsection (3) below, this section applies to any article which has a blade or is sharply pointed except a folding pocketknife.

    (3) This section applies to a folding pocketknife if the cutting edge of its blade exceeds 3 inches.

    (4) It shall be a defence for a person charged with an offence under this section to prove that he had good reason or lawful authority for having the article with him in a public place.

This is one of the best threads I've seen for ages. To summarise:

CWCDiver vents about the pointless security search at the museum. In doing so, they show how pointless the search was by stating it didn't find the knife in their bag.

rustyboy21 throws a strop, makes random unsubstantiated comments, changes their story and talks general drivel.

CWCDiver calmly and politely explains the law, numerous times.

And some of you think that CWCDiver is in the wrong here??? He's talking to a imbecile and being a hell of a lot more polite about it than I'd be!

I can't believe the reaction here, life would grind to a halt if we didn't have people who came prepared and brought an arsenal of weapons with them to fend off emergency situations where the opening of a bag of fusilli is required.

I got an earful myself the other day when I used my sawn off shotgun to open a pack of smarties in Mr Patel's corner shop, I really despair at what this world is coming to.
