An update for all other victims.
On Friday I contacted T Mobile and asked them if they would offer me free line renatl for the remainder of the contract. After being referred to the "loyalty & retentions" department they agreed. (In November they had only offered me 50% line rental).
I then rang Vibe, and was offered 50% of the unpaid line rental. I accepted.
Not an entire success, but it could have been worse!0
