  • Found some old spuds in the back of my cupboard, just starting to sprout so need to use them quick!

Any ideas? - or can you point me in the direction of the using up potatoes thread, I did search but can't find it!

    Thanks

Bake them all in the oven then freeze - I had no idea you could do this til recently - had a bag of spuds last week that needed using, froze them and we literally just had some of them an hour ago, microwaved from frozen with melted cheese and salad!

Brilliant! I intend to do this with potatoes every time I buy them as I [STRIKE]am [/STRIKE]was always throwing potatoes out

    Hi spendingmad,

If I need to use up potatoes I make potato bread and freeze it, but there are many more ideas on these threads that may help:

    Sprouting spuds ............

I'll add your thread to the first link once you've had some more replies to keep the ideas together.

  • thanks guys!

In the end I used some to make mash to go with tonights tea (braising steak done in slow cooker)

Also making scotchies and bacon for tea tomorrow - taste sooo much better if made the day before

and have also made 2 cheese and potato plate pies which I will freeze for weekend lunches (mine like a 'proper' lunch at the weekend!)

3 meals using up bits and pieces left hanging around:money:

  • Heres the plate pie thread (basically a pie made on a plate!) https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/1451649

And scotchies are potatoes sliced thinly length-ways, slice an onion and arrange in a casserole dish, adding some cheap bacon along the way. Pour in some boiling water with dissolved oxo cubes (2) until just covered (little bit below covering if you want to crispy topping). Bung in oven for around 45 minutes. Serve with cabbage and peas. Really cheap and really yummy - you dont even need to peel the spuds so really lazy too!

    Hello!

I've grown some potatoes but left them a bit late to dig them up. I've tried a few of them and they're really floury tasting. Is there anything I can use them for? would they be any good in a stew or something?
I'm too proud of them to throw them away! But just boiled they're a bit gross.

Use them in a potato bake? Or wedges when a floury centre is yummy.
Living cheap in central London :rotfl:
