Arrogant attitude? I think so......

I had laser surgery on my eyes a week ago to correct my appalling eyesight that I've lived with since I was about 18.

Optical Express did the operation, and I have got nothing but praise for them. The staff are very welcoming and professional, the process was explained in great detail and I have been very happy. Until now.

I went in for my check today and was taken into a small room by a young man. There were two machines in the room, and he asked me to put my chin on the bar of the first while he did something to check my eyes. Then he asked me to put my chin on the second machine. Before I knew it, he had sent a 'puff' of air into my eyeball. I wasn't expecting this and nearly shot off the chair, it made me jump out of my skin! I said 'You could have warned me', expecting him to say 'Oh, I'm sorry, I should have explained what I was going to do'. Instead, he said 'You've had it done before, you should have known what to expect'.

Now, not being an optical assistant, one machine looks just like the next to me. I have had it done before, but the assistant has always told me what to expect in advance, so I can be ready for it. It doesn't hurt, but it is quite uncomfortable.

I said to him I didn't appreciate his attitude and an apology would be more acceptable, to which he asked if I would prefer to be dealt with by someone else, to which I replied 'absolutely'.

A nice girl came in and apologised, and said that they are trained to always advise people of what to expect before they do anything. He had clearly forgotten his training.

It seems petty writing it down now, but at the time I was really put out! I was still mad when I went in to the optometrist. He apologised too! It seems I got an apology off everyone except for the arrogant little twit who upset me in the first place!

OK, rant over :D

    How unpleasant.

You have to be special kind of stupid to upset your customer and not have the good grace to offer a simple apology which would have cost nothing and meant the whole incident was forgotten about within minutes.
There are two types of people in the world: Those that can extrapolate information.
  • Unfortunately, there are a lot of arrogant little twits out there, at least you've been able to vent on here so no damage done.:)

It would be lovely if the 'arrogant little twit' read this but I don't think he'd reaslise it was him you were talking about, as most arrogant little twits are also too stupid to realise the affect their comments or actions can have on others.

I'd love to have laser eye surgery, my eyesight isn't brilliant.

It's not petty, I'd be fuming if it was me. Love to see Mary Portas get hold of him!
  • Thanks all, I'm usually very laid back and don't often strop off but you know what? This bloke really got my goat!!!! On the way out the optometrist asked if I would complete a customer satisfaction questionnaire, and I had to tell him it would make my whole experience appear really negative when in actual fact it was only that one arrogant twit who had changed my experience from positive to negative. At the end of the day, I paid the equivalent of a Caribbean holiday for this! I hope the arrogant twit was talked to and made to clean out the toilets or something.....or maybe I should go back with a pair of scissors and chop all the spikes off his hair!!! lol!

Is it any good, laser eye surgery? I'd consider it if it was cos my eyesight is terrible, and I'm fed up of Specsavers trying to sell me more and more expensive contact lenses every time I go there. Honestly, I reckon the only reason they have the contact lens checks is for a sales opportunity!
  • Hi Jimimi, I can really recommend it for sure. I have worn glasses and/or contact lenses for the best part of 30 years, and I always promised myself that when I could afford it I would have the laser surgery. I won't say the actual procedure is pleasant, I found it a bit traumatic (but I have a thing about eyes anyway). But it is over in seconds, and if you are brave, its not too bad! And, I can't praise Optical Express enough, they have been fab. apart from that little !!!!!! who completely let the side down.

  • I can see why you call yourself anxious mum.

I've sat on the same chair, and had the same test - and used my memory to remember which machine is the puffy one. I imagine most people do. First time, for sure - but after that, you do know what to expect....don't you?
If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.
  • Sambucus Nigra, I have had so many tests over the last three weeks I wouldn't be able to tell you what they all were about. Plus, the machines all look the same....the puffy one, and the other ones. I don't think its beyond my expectations to be warned what to expect.......do you?

Well, I can't say what you would expect as; all I know is that when I go, I say 'oh no, not the puffy one' and we have a little joke about it. It's not the sort of thing you forget in a hurry.

I went back in Dec after 2.5 years and still remembered which one it was.

[It's the second one, in the first room on the left hand side as you go in for the tests].
If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.
  • I'd rather not know the puff of air is coming. I just pull back from it every time!
From Starrystarrynight to Starrystarrynight1 and now I'm back...don't have a clue how!
