Hamish, would you have charactised Mewbie as a ghoul? Or if not, who?
    QUOTE]

Ah, beloved mewbie! Where art thou, or who art thou?

I was a little in love with mewbie, and have now had to resort to a relationship with a real live person, which is more time-consuming, among other things.

So was I, he was totally compelling in an angry-angsty kind of way.

    He probably still is:cool:

Can you tell me why my forum name is soooooo bad?

Hi Ma, I am the pixel also known as Twu.......

  • But, no, I haven't done a second identity or any multiple identities or satire regarding this forum or the individual boards, which is what goolies is about, isn't it.

    *snip*

Yes, I'd fess up to being Sibbers or Lavish or Goolies if I was, I think they're all great. But, no, I'm just me, mc.
Interesting, and fair enough. Probably same for me. To do a proper alternative character/reinvention requires effort and time to do properly. But then most of these are cardboard cutouts.

Which is why, when I think about it, puts HAMISH_MCTWUNTISH in the frame since he seemed absent for a fair while whilst the c_&_u shenanigans commenced... although to be fair I cannot corroborate that whatsoever, mainly because I cannot be bothered.

I wouldn't dare tell me Ma I came here in the first place! What a sad and lonely forum... "oooh I argue about property prices and the economy on a Saturday afternoon in a sublit room wearing a dressing gown."

    Yeah. GREAT HOBBY!!!!!!!!! *facepalm*

I take my anonymity VERY seriously. I won't even dare connect this to my other internet presences.

That said, those that knew me WOULD suspect from the style of my guff and nonsense, I reckon.

    Snap:)

Do you see forums as a sad, lonely way to spend time?

I have to admit, I dont

It's more interesting than the telly and far more fun than ironing. It's down time.

    Sometimes you even learn stuff.

As to the whole create_a_personna thing (you notice I have adopted underscores as an instant means of irony). I don't think it is possible.

Oh noes, course I don't really think that forums are lonely, though they CAN be weird... but me Ma (who I was talking about) would wonder what on earth anyone would want out of engaging with STRANGERS.

She's getting her very own internet shortly and not completely naive as has used the web whilst at work but just for looking stuff up. Social networking is lost on her.

I remember back when I were at university and back home for the hols, wanting to check emails... she was MEGA suspicious of the telephone cable that trailed up the stairs!

As it happens today I have found myself articulating (or attempting to articulate, (quiet lol)) the story of c_&_u to those unaware as well as changing my view on the matter of trolls considerably. There is a lot to be said for people who use forums happening to enjoy writing! I want to get a lot better though. These words are just immediate froth.

Oftentimes, I find. But not just the subject matter, but the people and relationships... Hamish was an interesting character to get my head round. When I joined he was aggressively dismissive of everything I'd post... but then I was just posting lamely-presented bear food so guess that'd be the red rag to the bull! So that was when I changed my approach to have a bit more of a laugh, become a bit lighter hearted if you like. :)

Yeah you're probably right. That's two persuasions in one day (the other by mostlycheerful). I'm so weak. You'll tell me 2+2=5 and I'll believe you. Am I gay?

Er, are you? But that's ok if you are, bit of gaiety helps the world go round, innit.

Thanks for referring to me and no, you're not weak at all, on the contrary, you're quite strong to be taking this stuff on board and thinking about it and not being just rigidly stuck in one narrow mindset. Yes, good for you. And, yes, Lavish is extremely intelligent and knowledgeable, often way beyond where I'm at, I was particularly impressed with his explanation of that Egypt protest stuff on viva's thread a couple of days ago and cos I don't know much about it the one thing I did want to say was thanking him for providing such a good clear interesting piece about it and thanking viva for doing the thread and also presenting some important info in a concise easy to understand way that gives the likes of me a chance of finding out a bit about what it's about.

And I didn't even attempt to try to say anything about the actual subject itself as I just don't know enough about it to come in at anything like the level that Hamish and viva are at.

So, yes, I'll run my mouth off when I've got something to say and if I think I know what I'm talking about but on a lot of other stuff I'm happy to keep schtum and listen to the people who do know about it. Which is one of the good things about this forum and other forums, learning interesting stuff off other people, isn't it. Yes, it's good to keep an open mind and do a bit of thinking and learning. Of course there are also some people who don't do much or any of that so unfortunately you do also get some thickies talking crap. I've had a few run ins with stupid ignorant people who don't know the first thing about what they're saying, I think we probably all do at one time or another.

And, of course, some of them are highly strung or have a bad attitude so for them it's more about arguing and insulting and getting in a huff. And not much about sharing or chewing the cud with like minded people. But that's just public forums for you. So, sure, whatever, you've just got to take the rough with the smooth. A lot of the people here are good but, just like down the pub or pretty much most parties and social gatherings, there's generally also a knob or two or three who, if you don't just ignore them, can spoil it a bit.

And, yes, one more ting, yes, you're right, a bit of humour and comedy and a laugh and sometimes just keeping it light and frothy and for entertainment is also a very good thing here. Yeah, we can all do with a bit of a laugh, can't we, it doesn't have to all be deadly serious stuff, does it.

    Cool, groovy.

Listening to someone elses take on a situation. Actually honest-to-god listening and not just pausing for breath is a very real strength.

The onle real downside to internet debate is people tend to become entrenched behind their respective parapets.

Sockies can allow them to move beyond that.

You are definately not gay. No self respecting homosexual would have dreamt of using !!!!!!_face as a screen name.
