Debate House Prices
In order to help keep the Forum a useful, safe and friendly place for our users, discussions around non MoneySaving matters are no longer permitted. This includes wider debates about general house prices, the economy and politics. As a result, we have taken the decision to keep this board permanently closed, but it remains viewable for users who may find some useful information in it. Thank you for your understanding.

Totally agree.
The ghouls of the world are just as sad as the dirk rambo or rewired sockies, or the invasion of low post count trolls from hpc every time an index shows a fall, or the gold/silver ramper with multiple ID's.....
It's pointless trying to engage with any of them, they'll just pop up with another ID and disrupt any thread that starts getting interesting.Although I hadn't quite realised what a sockpuppet was till this thread... And I recall being accused of being one! [I'm not, btw - if someone checked the IP addresses of my posts they would have to be highly distinctive]
Yeah, mine too, but it doesn't stop the accusations flying.
Sockpuppets are the sign of a weak argument. When you have to invent people to agree with you, you've already lost.“The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie – deliberate, contrived, and dishonest – but the myth, persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic.
Belief in myths allows the comfort of opinion without the discomfort of thought.”

from 'modify behaviour', i read that as agree with me under all costs.
this board is terribly policed, and anyone having a contrary opinion, or one that is even slightly controversial is banned. no questions, no reasons. just banned.
if this board is not wanting lively debate, and just money saving, then by all means remove a great deal of the posts, and ensure everything is kept entirely on topic about saving money.
But this will see site traffic drop drastically and Mr Lewis will not like that at all, as that will affect him in the pocket. and no-one likes that.0 -

Plenty of good posts recently on this forum concerning wider economic issues get little to no discussion.
Good debate is healthy. Irrespective of view. As in the middle there's compromise.
Completely agree.
The aggressive nature of the trolling and sock-puppetry is totally out of control, and it's preventing people from posting as there's no point... Any decent conversation gets lost in the noise.“The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie – deliberate, contrived, and dishonest – but the myth, persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic.

This sub forum is hidden from view. So has no impact on the MSE website.0 -
so you dont want new users to know you exist? that will stop new users who want to debate house prices from ever visiting here and staying once signing up. therefore reducing site traffic.0

Umm, what is a ghoul?
I do actually know what a sockie and a troll are but ghoul is a new term to me.

The forum is in existance to debate far wider issues than house prices alone. As in many ways HP's are a by product of the wider economic situation.
There are forums elsewhere for those with an interest purely in the one topic to the exclusion of all else.0 -

It could be one poster, or several. It could be estate agents who genuinely believe their expressed viewpoint, or bears who are satirising bulls. OR a mixture. OR something else.
The CAPITALS_AND_UNDERSCORES characters proclaim all those who are in favour of a stable/sensible property market are "ghouls".
Of course, when I say "those who are in favour of a stable/sensible property market", I am also making reference to what HAMISH_MCTAVISH (apparently not a CAPITALS_AND_UNDERSCORES character, but possibly an inspiration to the name (I speculate)) calls "crashaholics", i.e. the true doom-and-gloomsters from the housepricecrash.co.uk (aka HPC) forum.
It would appear the CAPITALS_AND_UNDERSCORES characters generally have the view that the "ghouls" are akin to baby-murderers and kitten-molestors, who want nothing more than to destroy the wealth and wellbeing of property-owners throughout the UK, despite the obvious credit bubble and loony mentality that drove the UK to madness and then economic oblivion, and a consequent prolonged (20 years? look at Japan...) sluggish recovery.
Cor blimey, look at me, I've almost validated the existence of one or a selection of trolls. I should be banned.
Please don't ban me.Long live the faces of t'wunty.0 -
HAMISH_MCTAVISH is a legitimate poster here, who contributes to the debate. Most of the other CAPITAL_UNDERSCORES are annoying truntheads out simply to cause trouble.“The ideas of debtor and creditor as to what constitutes a good time never coincide.”
